DescriptionCVE.org

Improper neutralization of special elements used in an OS command in yast2-samba-client allows an attacker who controls the content of an Active Directory directory tree - a rogue domain controller, or a directory user delegated the right to create objects - to execute arbitrary commands as root on a machine being joined to that domain. This issue affects yast2-samba-client through 5.0.4.

AnalysisAI

OS command injection in yast2-samba-client through 5.0.4 allows an attacker who controls Active Directory content - via a rogue domain controller or delegated AD object-creation rights - to execute arbitrary commands as root on a SUSE Linux machine during the domain-join process. The attack exploits unsanitized AD directory tree values being passed directly to shell commands running with root privileges inside the YaST2 domain-join workflow. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires the attacker to pre-position malicious content in an Active Directory directory tree - either by controlling a rogue domain controller reachable by the victim machine, or by holding delegated AD rights to create or modify directory objects within the target domain. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 score of 7.5 reflects high impact across confidentiality, integrity, and availability (VC:H/VI:H/VA:H), moderated by AT:P (specific attack prerequisites - attacker must control AD content) and UI:A (administrator must trigger domain join). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation No exact fixed version is confirmed in the available data; check the SUSE Bugzilla entry at https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1272776 and the SUSE Security Advisories portal directly for a patched release and upgrade instructions. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory all SUSE systems running yast2-samba-client through version 5.0.4 and identify which are used for Active Directory domain joining; immediately restrict administrative privileges for AD object creation to reduce attacker surface area. …
