Network-reachable over sftunnel with low complexity; PR:H because valid FTD admin credentials are required; S:C as compromise crosses from managed FTD to the FMC manager and HA peer; root yields C/I/A:H.

A vulnerability in the sftunnel inter-device communication protocol of Cisco Secure FMC Software could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to obtain root privileges.
This vulnerability is due to unsecured deserialization of untrusted data over the sftunnel management connection. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted sftunnel remote procedure calls (RPCs). A successful exploit could allow the attacker to gain root privileges on a device that is running Cisco Secure FMC Software and its high-availability peer. To exploit this vulnerability, the attacker must have valid administrative credentials on a managed Cisco FTD device.
AnalysisAI
Authenticated attackers who already hold administrative credentials on a managed Cisco FTD device can escalate to root on Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center (FMC) Software and its high-availability peer by abusing the sftunnel inter-device management channel to send crafted remote procedure calls that the FMC deserializes insecurely. Because the flaw crosses a security boundary (scope change), a single compromised managed firewall yields full control over the central management platform and its HA partner, giving the issue a disproportionately large blast radius. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires the attacker to already hold valid administrative credentials on a Cisco FTD device that is managed by the target FMC. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuine high-priority issue, though not a drop-everything internet-facing emergency. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Patch availability is not explicitly confirmed in the provided data, so the primary action is to consult Cisco advisory cisco-sa-fmc-mulivulns-4PsnFwvx (https://sec.cloudapps.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-fmc-mulivulns-4PsnFwvx) and apply the fixed FMC software release Cisco designates for this defect, including updating both nodes of any high-availability pair so the exploitable sftunnel path is closed on the peer as well. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory all Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center (FMC) and managed Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) devices, verify that administrative access is limited to essential personnel and protected by MFA, and review sftunnel logs for anomalous RPC activity; isolate FMC management interfaces from untrusted networks where feasible. …
