HumHub Community Edition 1.18.4 contains a reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability in the Space membership-request workflow. An attacker can place attacker-controlled button configuration in the options query-string parameter of space/membership/request-membership-form, lure an authenticated non-member into submitting the legitimate membership request form, and cause the server to return JavaScript containing attacker-controlled code.
AnalysisAI
Reflected cross-site scripting in HumHub Community Edition 1.18.4 allows a low-privileged attacker to inject arbitrary JavaScript into the browser session of an authenticated non-member by embedding malicious button configuration in the options query-string parameter of the space/membership/request-membership-form endpoint. When a social-engineering lure causes the victim to submit the membership request form, the server reflects attacker-controlled markup inside a script context, enabling account takeover-class impact. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | The victim must be an authenticated HumHub user who is not already a member of the targeted Space - unauthenticated users cannot trigger the vulnerable code path. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 score of 7.2 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:A) reflects meaningful exploitation friction: the attack requires both a low-privileged attacker account and active victim interaction (submitting a crafted form), and AT:P indicates that a specific target condition - the victim being an authenticated non-member - must be present. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | The upstream fix is available as GitHub pull request #8381 (https://github.com/humhub/humhub/pull/8381), which introduces input sanitization via `sanitizeRequestOptions()` across both the MembershipButton and FriendshipButton widgets, and encodes button markup in membership request responses to prevent script context breakout. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
