MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated HumHub account (PR:L) but nothing more - the attacker does NOT need to be a member of, or hold any role in, the targeted Space, because the 'remove-all' action in the Space member-management controller lacked an authorization rule. The concrete prerequisite is simply reaching the Space manage MemberController 'remove-all' endpoint on any HumHub instance running 1.13.0-1.18.2. Limiting factors: a valid login is mandatory (fully anonymous exploitation is not possible), so exposure scales with how easily accounts can be obtained (open registration greatly increases risk); no user interaction and no special non-default configuration are needed, and the affected version range is bounded to 1.13.0 through 1.18.2 with 1.18.3+ not vulnerable. |
| Impact | The vendor CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:H/VA:N, score 7.1) is internally consistent with the description: network-reachable, low complexity, requires only a low-privileged authenticated account, no user interaction, and a high integrity impact (destruction of Space membership) with no confidentiality or direct availability metric. No EPSS score, POC, or SSVC decision data was supplied, and the CVE is not in CISA KEV, so there is no evidence of active exploitation or automated weaponization - this is a real but not emergency-tier issue. The main tension worth flagging: the vector rates availability as N (VA:N), yet mass-removing all members effectively renders a Space unusable, so real-world operational impact may be closer to an availability/denial effect than the vector implies. Because exploitation needs a valid account (PR:L), risk is highest in open-registration or large multi-tenant HumHub deployments where any user can obtain credentials; in tightly controlled internal instances the population of potential abusers is limited. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A regular authenticated HumHub user - potentially one who self-registered on an open instance - sends a request to the Space member-management 'remove-all' endpoint targeting a Space they neither administer nor belong to, and the missing authorization check lets the request succeed, wiping out that Space's entire membership. Because attack complexity is low and no user interaction is required, this can be repeated against many Spaces to disrupt collaboration across the platform. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, though the fix commit reveals the exact vulnerable action. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Jul 21, 2026
Broken access control in HumHub 1.13.0 through 1.18.2 lets any authenticated user delete every member of any Space, regardless of whether they belong to or hold any role in that Space. The flaw is a missing authorization rule on the Space member-management controller's 'remove-all' action (CWE-862), fixed in 1.18.3. No public exploit identified at time of analysis and it is not listed in CISA KEV, but the trivial-to-trigger, authenticated-only nature makes it a realistic insider/low-privilege abuse risk.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade to HumHub 1.18.3 or later, which adds the missing 'remove-all' action to the MemberController access rules so bulk member removal is again gated behind Space administration permissions (see advisory GHSA-hj67-5q6h-j7c2 and PR https://github.com/humhub/humhub/pull/8163). The vendor states no known workaround is available, so upgrading is the only complete fix. As interim compensating controls until the upgrade can be applied, restrict who can obtain authenticated accounts (disable open/self-service registration and pause new-user approvals), since exploitation requires only a valid login; monitor application and audit logs for unexpected bulk member-removal events and maintain current backups of Space membership data so accidental or malicious mass removals can be restored - note these controls reduce exposure and aid recovery but do not close the vulnerable endpoint.

Technical ContextAI · show details
HumHub is a PHP (Yii2 framework) open-source enterprise social network organized around 'Spaces' (group workspaces) with per-Space membership and role-based permissions. The vulnerable code is protected/humhub/modules/space/modules/manage/controllers/MemberController.php, whose getAccessRules() enumerates the controller actions gated behind Space-admin authorization. As shown in the PR #8163 diff, the 'remove-all' action was omitted from that access-rule list while related actions ('remove', 'approve-applicant', etc.) were protected, so Yii's access filter never enforced the admin/permission check for bulk member removal. This is a textbook CWE-862 Missing Authorization: the endpoint existed and functioned but its authorization guard was never wired up, leaving it reachable by any logged-in account. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:humhub:humhub:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* confirms the HumHub application itself is the affected component.

2DescriptionCVE.org
HumHub is an Open Source Enterprise Social Network. In versions 1.13.0 through 1.18.2, a missing authorization check in the Space member management controller allowed any authenticated user to trigger the removal of all members from any Space, regardless of their own role or membership in that Space. Versions 1.13.0 through 1.18.2 are affected. The vulnerability has been patched in version 1.18.3, and all users are encouraged to upgrade to this version or later immediately. No known workaround is available.
Executive ViewAI
HumHub versions 1.13.0 through 1.18.2 contain broken access control allowing any authenticated user to delete all members from any Space without membership or role restrictions. This low-privilege insider threat directly impacts collaboration governance and creates risk of data isolation or team disruption across organizations relying on HumHub for secure group management.
