2DescriptionCVE.org
A flaw was found in open-iscsi. An integer underflow vulnerability in the iscsiuio component, specifically during IPv4 Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) parsing, allows a remote attacker on the same local network segment to cause a denial of service. By sending a specially crafted IPv4/UDP DHCP reply, the attacker can trigger an out-of-bounds read, leading to the iscsiuio process crashing. This issue affects systems where iscsiuio is actively handling IPv4 DHCP traffic.
AnalysisAI
The iscsiuio DHCP parser in open-iscsi crashes when processing maliciously crafted DHCP reply packets, disrupting iSCSI storage connectivity or network boot on affected hosts. An integer underflow (CWE-191) in the IPv4/UDP DHCP reply parsing path triggers an out-of-bounds read, causing the iscsiuio process to terminate; impact is limited to availability with no confidentiality or integrity exposure. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires the attacker to be present on the same Layer-2 local network segment as the target host (AV:A - adjacent network; internet-sourced exploitation is not possible). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:A/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H, score 6.5) accurately captures the key risk dimensions: the attack is constrained to adjacent-network segments, requires no authentication or user interaction, and produces a high availability impact with no confidentiality or integrity consequence. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Apply the Red Hat-provided errata update for the open-iscsi package on affected RHEL 9 and RHEL 10 systems as soon as it is published; monitor the vendor advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-18728 for the patched package version, which is not yet confirmed in the current data set. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Threat intelligence, references, and detailed analysis are available after sign-in.
