| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires network reachability to the Asset Suite web application's PropertiesReloadServlet, CacheFlushServlet, MetadataCacheFlushServlet, or ResourceBundleReloadServlet endpoints, which are exposed without authentication (PR:N). No credentials are needed. Realistic impact is limited by the fact that these servlets' behavior and reachability depend on how the Asset Suite instance is configured for its production environment ('depending on how the Asset Suite application is configured'), so exposure is not guaranteed in every deployment. Impact is availability-only (partial DoS), with no path to data disclosure or modification. The vendor vector also lists UI:A (active user interaction), which if accurate would further constrain exploitation, though this conflicts with the described direct servlet access. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but modest-severity issue best characterized as a high-availability-relevance, low-real-risk flaw. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:A/VA:L) yields only 5.1 (medium): network-reachable and requiring no privileges, but impact is confined to a partial availability loss (VA:L) with no confidentiality or integrity effect (VC:N/VI:N). No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit code were provided, so exploitation status is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis' - there is no signal of active or automated exploitation. The description ('could result in denial-of-service conditions ... depending on how the Asset Suite application is configured') indicates impact is conditional on deployment configuration rather than guaranteed, which further tempers real-world risk. One data conflict to verify: the vendor vector sets UI:A (active user interaction required), yet the description depicts direct unauthenticated HTTP access to named servlets, which normally needs no user interaction - the UI:A choice should be confirmed with Hitachi Energy, as it materially lowers the score. Net: a real defect worth patching in affected utility environments, but not an emergency given availability-only, config-dependent, non-critical impact and no exploitation evidence. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A remote, unauthenticated attacker who can reach the Asset Suite web interface repeatedly invokes exposed maintenance servlets such as CacheFlushServlet or PropertiesReloadServlet, forcing expensive reload/flush operations that degrade or interrupt application availability. No exploit code is publicly identified, and the resulting condition is a denial of service rather than data compromise; impact depends on how the deployment has configured these servlets. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 29, 2026
Unauthenticated network access to four maintenance servlets in Hitachi Energy Asset Suite - PropertiesReloadServlet, CacheFlushServlet, MetadataCacheFlushServlet and ResourceBundleReloadServlet - lets remote attackers invoke reload and cache-flush operations that can degrade application availability. Our independent assessment rates this an availability-only, partial denial-of-service condition (CVSS 3.1 5.1, AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L) with no path to data disclosure or modification, and the vendor's CVSS 4.0 vector agrees on the availability-only scope (VA:L) while also requiring user interaction (UI:A), which would further constrain practical exploitation. Real-world exposure is deployment-dependent because these servlets are production-maintenance functions whose presence and reachability depend on how the Asset Suite instance is configured; no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis and the CVE is not listed in CISA KEV.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch has been identified at time of analysis; treat the Hitachi Energy advisory (https://publisher.hitachienergy.com/preview?DocumentID=8DBD000254&LanguageCode=en&DocumentPartId=&Action=Launch) as the primary source for an exact fixed version, and apply it as soon as Hitachi Energy publishes one. Until then, the most effective compensating control is to block or restrict the four servlet paths (/PropertiesReloadServlet, /CacheFlushServlet, /MetadataCacheFlushServlet, /ResourceBundleReloadServlet) at the reverse proxy, WAF or load balancer, allowing them only from a trusted administrative network - the trade-off is that legitimate post-configuration cache and bundle reloads must then originate from those permitted hosts. Where those functions are not required in production, undeploy or disable the servlets entirely (for example by removing their mappings from web.xml in the deployed WAR); the trade-off is that configuration and localization changes will require an application restart instead of a live reload. Adding an authentication constraint (security-constraint/basic-auth or integration with the site SSO) directly in front of the reload endpoints is also viable, but it may break existing automated maintenance scripts that call these URLs unauthenticated, so those scripts must be updated with credentials first. As a secondary layer, rate-limit and alert on requests to these paths so that a burst of reload calls is throttled rather than saturating the cache-rebuild path, and keep the Asset Suite web tier off untrusted networks since the defect is only exploitable by parties who can already reach the servlet endpoints. None of these controls address the underlying CWE-306 defect, so replacing them with the vendor fix once available remains the correct end state.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The flaw is CWE-306 (Missing Authentication for Critical Function) in Hitachi Energy Asset Suite, an enterprise asset-management web application built on Java servlet technology. The affected endpoints are not business functions but operational maintenance hooks: PropertiesReloadServlet re-reads application configuration properties, CacheFlushServlet clears application caches, MetadataCacheFlushServlet flushes the metadata cache, and ResourceBundleReloadServlet re-loads localization resource bundles. Under normal design these should be callable only by administrators after configuration or localization changes, but they are exposed without any authentication check, so any host that can reach the application can invoke them repeatedly. Each invocation forces the server to re-parse configuration, rebuild caches and re-read resource bundles, consuming CPU, memory and thread-pool capacity; repeated or concurrent calls can push the application into a degraded or unresponsive state for legitimate users - a partial denial of service (VC:N/VI:N/VA:L). The CPE entry cpe:2.3:a:hitachi_energy:asset_suite:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* carries a wildcard version, indicating the vendor did not scope the issue to a specific release, and the 'Authentication Bypass' tag reflects that the entire defect class here is the absence of an authorization gate rather than a weakness in the servlets' internal logic. Because the servlets exist only where the deployment has been configured to use them, reachability - and therefore exploitability - varies between installations.

DescriptionCVE.org
Asset Suite allows unauthenticated users to access PropertiesReloadServlet, CacheFlushServlet, MetadataCacheFlushServlet and ResourceBundleReloadServlet, which could result in denial-of-service conditions affecting application availability. These servlets are designed to perform specific functions within production environment depending on how the Asset Suite application is configured.
