| Exploitation Conditions | Requires (1) mispguard deployed as the filtering proxy in front of a MISP instance, and (2) the attacker controlling or compromising a feed endpoint that is already configured and polled by that MISP instance. Exploitation then occurs automatically through the existing feed polling mechanism with no authentication or user interaction, by returning any HTTP 2xx status other than 200 - specifically 201, 203, or 206 per the fix - carrying unfiltered content. Limiting factors: the attacker gains nothing without an attacker-controlled configured feed, only successful (2xx, non-200) responses bypass filtering, and the issue affects only the pre-patch process_feed_response logic in src/mispguard.py. |
| Impact | CVSS 4.0 rates this 7.7 (High), driven entirely by subsequent-system integrity impact (SI:H) with no confidentiality, availability, or code-execution impact (VC:N/VI:N/VA:N). The vector is network, low-complexity, no-privilege, no-interaction (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N), but that does not mean trivial internet-wide exploitation: the description makes clear the attacker must already control or compromise a feed endpoint that the victim's MISP instance is configured to poll, so reachability depends on that trust relationship rather than open network access. The vuln.today decision label is 'this_week', consistent with a real but non-emergency integrity flaw in a security control. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit were provided in the input, so there is no signal of active or widespread exploitation - this reads as a defense-weakening filter bypass to remediate on a normal patch cadence, not a high-CVSS issue being mass-exploited. Note a conflict in the metadata: the 'RCE' tag is inconsistent with the CVSS vector and description, which describe unfiltered data ingestion (integrity), not remote code execution. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An operator deploys mispguard to filter an external threat-intel feed; the feed host is attacker-controlled or later compromised. During a routine feed poll, the host returns an HTTP 203 or 206 response carrying crafted MISP event data, which mispguard passes through unfiltered because its logic only blocked non-200 responses, allowing the malicious events to be ingested. No public exploit was identified in the input, but the trigger is straightforward given control of the feed response. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 26, 2026
Feed filtering bypass in MISP mispguard allows a compromised or attacker-controlled MISP feed host to push unfiltered event data into the protected MISP instance by answering with any 2xx status other than 200 (201 Created, 203 Non-Authoritative Information, 206 Partial Content), because the pre-patch process_feed_response logic only reasoned about the non-200 case and let every other successful code through untouched. The attacker must already control or have compromised a feed endpoint configured and polled by that MISP instance; from there no authentication or user interaction is required beyond the feed polling loop already in place. Upstream fix commit b5f606a4e57a49cc4dbf9b3ef0c6ddd19f866735 changes these responses to a 403 block, no public exploit was identified at time of analysis and active exploitation is not confirmed (CISA KEV), and vuln.today priority is this_week.
RemediationAI
Patch available per vendor advisory: update mispguard to a build containing commit b5f606a4e57a49cc4dbf9b3ef0c6ddd19f866735 (https://github.com/MISP/misp-guard/commit/b5f606a4e57a49cc4dbf9b3ef0c6ddd19f866735), which rejects any 2xx feed response other than 200 with a 403 and includes regression tests parameterized over 201, 203 and 206 - since no tagged release version is given in the supplied data, deploy the fixed commit (or a release that includes it) rather than assuming a version number, and confirm the block behaviour in a staging proxy before rolling to the production MISP instance. Because the only complete fix is the code change, exposure before patching is bounded by the exploitation prerequisite rather than by a configuration toggle: an attacker gains nothing without a feed endpoint they control or have compromised, so the practical interim step is to review the feed sources configured on each protected MISP instance and remove or disable any feed whose host is not fully trusted, at the cost of losing that feed's intelligence until it is re-enabled on a patched mispguard. Note that merely restricting the accepted status codes at the MISP or reverse-proxy layer is not described in the supplied evidence as a validated workaround, so it should be treated as unverified until tested against the patched behaviour.

Technical ContextAI · show details
mispguard is a filtering proxy that sits in front of a MISP instance, inspects feed responses in flight and blocks content matching configured rules before MISP ingests it; the affected code lives in src/mispguard.py, in the process_feed_response path that evaluates each proxied HTTP flow and can short-circuit it with a forbidden() response. The root cause is classified as CWE-20 (Improper Input Validation): the code enumerated only the specific status value 200 as the filtered path, so any other 2xx code fell into the pass-through branch on the assumption that non-200 responses would not carry ingestible event data - an assumption that no longer holds for 201, 203 and 206. The upstream diff adds an explicit guard for 200 < status_code < 300 that returns a 403 'unexpected feed response status code' block, and the accompanying parameterized test (201, 203, 206) asserts that even content which would not match any block rule is rejected. The supplied CPE cpe:2.3:a:misp:misp-guard:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* is an unbounded wildcard, so every mispguard build predating this commit is in scope; in our assessment the flaw affects only that pre-patch logic and only manifests when mispguard is actually deployed as the filtering proxy in front of MISP. Note that the supplied tag 'RCE' is not corroborated by the commit diff or by the assessed vector, which records no code-execution, confidentiality or availability impact (VC:N/VI:N/VA:N) and confines the effect to integrity of the downstream system (SI:H).

DescriptionCVE.org
MISP mispguard is a security filtering proxy that inspects and blocks MISP feed responses based on configured rules. The process_feed_response method in src/mispguard.py was responsible for evaluating feed responses before they reached the MISP instance. The original logic only explicitly handled the case where the HTTP status code was not 200 by passing the response through without filtering, on the assumption that non-200 responses would not carry ingestible event data. However, HTTP 2xx status codes other than 200 (such as 201 Created, 203 Non-Authoritative Information, and 206 Partial Content) were also passed through unfiltered. Because MISP may still ingest content from these responses, a malicious or compromised feed host could return a 203 or 206 status code with arbitrary content, effectively bypassing all of mispguard's filtering rules. This allowed unfiltered or malicious feed data to be ingested into the MISP instance, undermining the security controls that mispguard is designed to enforce. The vulnerability requires the attacker to control or compromise a feed endpoint configured in the MISP instance. No authentication or user interaction is required beyond the feed polling mechanism already in place.
Executive ViewAI
A high-severity vulnerability in MISP's mispguard feed filtering could allow a compromised or attacker-controlled MISP feed host to inject unfiltered event data into your protected MISP instance. This undermines data integrity controls and could expose your organization to poisoned intelligence, affecting security operations and decision-making. Leadership should prioritize patching to maintain trust in threat intelligence feeds.
