MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires the mesh/HA coordination mode of sglang-router (sgl-model-gateway) to be deployed and the attacker to already hold a valid data-plane API key - the key issued for ordinary inference/routing traffic, a lower trust tier than the control-plane Admin role. The specific trigger is that the /ha/* management routes (including POST /ha/shutdown) were registered without the control-plane Admin authorization layer, so any data-plane-authenticated caller reaches them. Limiting factors: the attacker must possess a legitimate data-plane credential (not unauthenticated), HA/mesh coordination must be in use (standalone/non-HA deployments expose no /ha/* routes), and affected versions are those through 0.3.2; environments where data-plane keys are tightly scoped and not shared with lower-trust components face reduced real-world risk. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but moderate-severity authorization flaw, not a false-alarm high-CVSS issue - and conversely not a drop-everything priority. The vendor-supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:L/VA:L, 5.3 Medium) is internally consistent with the description: exploitation requires network reach plus an already-valid data-plane API key (PR:L), with no user interaction and low attack complexity, and the impact is limited (Low) across confidentiality, integrity, and availability rather than full system compromise. The PR:L rating is well-justified - this is a privilege-boundary bypass between two authenticated tiers (data-plane vs. control-plane/Admin), not an unauthenticated break-in. No EPSS score is provided, the CVE is not listed in CISA KEV, and no public proof-of-concept is referenced, so the realistic signal set points to no public exploit identified at time of analysis. The patch (PR #45017) and VulnCheck advisory confirm the vulnerability is real and fixed, but there is no evidence of active exploitation. Net: prioritize patching where sglang-router HA/mesh mode is deployed and data-plane keys are broadly distributed, but this is a privilege-escalation-within-trust-boundary issue, not a wormable internet-facing RCE. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker (or a compromised low-trust service) possessing only a data-plane API key - intended merely for inference/routing requests - sends authenticated requests to the /ha/* mesh management endpoints, which fail to enforce the control-plane Admin role check. They read cluster topology, tamper with gossiped configuration and global rate limits, or issue POST /ha/shutdown to silently collapse HA coordination. No public exploit code is referenced, but the patched source (server.rs) and advisory make the trivial request path clear. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 19, 2026
Authorization bypass in sglang-router (sgl-model-gateway) through 0.3.2 allows an authenticated holder of a data-plane API key to reach the /ha/* mesh high-availability management routes that are meant to require the control-plane Admin role. Such a caller can read cluster topology, write gossiped configuration, modify global rate limits, and invoke POST /ha/shutdown to quietly dissolve HA coordination. Exploitation requires mesh/HA coordination mode to be deployed and a valid data-plane credential; no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, and a vendor patch is available.
RemediationAI
Patch available per vendor advisory; apply the fix referenced by upstream PR #45017 (https://github.com/sgl-project/sglang/pull/45017) and the VulnCheck advisory. Because the input does not provide an exact fixed release version, confirm the patched build with the vendor before upgrading, and prioritize any deployment with mesh/HA coordination enabled. Compensating controls until patched: block external access to /ha/* at the reverse proxy or ingress (side effect: legitimate HA administration and monitoring that rely on those endpoints will break); disable mesh/HA coordination mode where high availability is not required (side effect: loss of HA redundancy); tightly scope and rotate data-plane API keys so lower-trust inference clients cannot reach gateway management paths (side effect: key distribution and rotation overhead); restrict the gateway management listener to trusted networks (side effect: operational complexity). Monitor for POST /ha/shutdown and unexpected gossiped configuration or rate-limit changes as evidence of attempted abuse.

Technical ContextAI · show details
sglang-router, distributed as sgl-model-gateway, is the Rust/Axum routing and gateway component for SGLang inference serving. In build_app in sgl-model-gateway/src/server.rs, the /ha/* mesh management routes were registered behind the general data-plane auth middleware but without the apply_control_plane_auth layer used for control-plane administration, so the Admin-role check was skipped. The flaw is CWE-863 (incorrect authorization) and matters because the HA mesh uses gossiped state for cluster membership and topology plus global rate-limit configuration; POST /ha/shutdown triggers a graceful shutdown that can dissolve HA coordination. The upstream fix in PR #45017 wraps the mesh routes with apply_control_plane_auth, enforcing control-plane Admin authorization when RBAC is configured and otherwise requiring the plain data-plane API key. The supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (5.3, PR:L) and the independent CVSS 3.1 assessment (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L) agree that a valid low-privileged data-plane credential is required and that impact is limited to confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the routing/HA layer.

DescriptionCVE.org
sglang-router (sgl-model-gateway) through 0.3.2 contains an authorization bypass vulnerability that allows holders of the data-plane API key to access mesh HA management routes because /ha/* endpoints skip control-plane Admin role checks. Attackers can read cluster topology, write gossiped configuration, change global rate limits, and call POST /ha/shutdown to silently dissolve HA coordination.
