| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated OneUptime project member (PR:L) who holds the AI-access admin-set permission at the project level but is NOT scoped (via labels/owners) to the target Kubernetes cluster; the vulnerable endpoints - AI access test, agent reset, kubectl plan approval, and incident AI conversation - validated only project-wide permissions instead of the per-cluster edit ACL (KubernetesCluster Update, labels and owners included) on affected versions 14.0.2 through 14.0.68. Deployment must actively use OneUptime's Kubernetes cluster management and AI agent features for the flaw to be reachable. Limiting factors: no unauthenticated/external path (project membership and the admin-set permission are prerequisites), impact is scoped to clusters within the same project, and the incident AI conversation path runs only read-only kubectl/infrastructure commands; fixed in 14.0.69. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but moderate-severity authorization flaw (CWE-863), not a critical priority. The provided CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N) and the 5.3 base score agree that exploitation is network-reachable and low-complexity but requires existing authenticated project membership (PR:L), which sharply limits the attacker population to insiders or anyone who has already obtained valid project credentials. Impact is bounded (VC:L/VI:L/VA:N, scope unchanged), consistent with information disclosure of RBAC permissions plus limited integrity actions (agent reset, kubectl plan approval, running commands on out-of-scope clusters) rather than full system compromise. There is no EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public proof-of-concept in the provided data, so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no evidence of active exploitation. The security advisory, patch commit, and release are all confirmed, so the primary conflicting/missing signal is simply the absence of exploitation-probability data (EPSS) - reasonable for a recently disclosed, patch-available issue. Net: a real authorization-scoping bug worth patching, especially in multi-tenant/multi-member OneUptime projects managing Kubernetes clusters, but not an emergency given the authenticated prerequisite and limited impact. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A low-privileged but authenticated member of a OneUptime project invokes the Kubernetes AI access test, agent reset, kubectl plan approval, or incident AI conversation endpoints, which only enforce project-wide permission checks rather than per-cluster/label/owner scope. Because the network vector is low-complexity (AV:N/AC:L) once authenticated (PR:L), the member can enumerate agent RBAC permissions, disconnect agents, approve kubectl changes, or run commands against clusters they were never authorized to manage. No public exploit identified at time of analysis. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 18, 2026
Incorrect authorization in OneUptime 14.0.2 through 14.0.68 allows an authenticated project member holding the AI-access admin-set permission to act on Kubernetes clusters that their label- and owner-based scope does not cover, including probing agent RBAC permissions via the AI access test, resetting/disconnecting agents, approving pending kubectl changes, and steering incident AI conversations into running commands on unauthorized resources. The flaw is reachable only where cluster management and AI agent features are actually in use, and the incident-conversation path is limited to read-only kubectl/infrastructure commands; no public exploit code was identified at time of analysis and the issue is not in CISA KEV. Vendor-released patch: 14.0.69, with a documented regression test suite exercising per-cluster edit scope through the real user middleware.
RemediationAI
Upgrade OneUptime to 14.0.69 or later, which applies the per-cluster edit-scope check to the AI access test, agent reset, kubectl plan approval and incident AI conversation paths (commit 264e1ba13149cbd4c80cb22f2177b405886b0452; release https://github.com/OneUptime/oneuptime/releases/tag/14.0.69; advisory https://github.com/OneUptime/oneuptime/security/advisories/GHSA-8fph-9j9f-xxgc). If upgrade cannot be scheduled immediately, compensate by narrowing the AI-access admin-set permission to a small set of trusted project administrators and removing it from any custom roles that are meant to be label- or owner-scoped - trade-off: those members lose AI agent management entirely until the fix lands. Alternatively, disable unattended resource AI access and the Kubernetes AI agent for non-administrators (the UI gate canResetResourceAiAgent / canConfigureUnattendedKubernetesAiAccess can be withheld via permission configuration) - trade-off: AI SRE triage and kubectl plan workflows degrade to manual operation. Audit recent AI access tests, agent resets and kubectl plan approvals for clusters outside the acting member's label/owner scope to detect prior abuse, and treat any cluster whose kubeconfig or agent token was exposed through the access test as potentially compromised, rotating credentials. Note that the incident AI conversation path is read-only, so data exposure rather than cluster mutation is the primary residual risk from that surface.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The root cause is CWE-863 (incorrect authorization) in OneUptime's Kubernetes AI access layer. Endpoints implemented in packages/Common/Server/API/KubernetesClusterAiAccessAPI.ts (referenced lines 188-207 at tag 14.0.68) gated actions on project-wide permission sets such as RESOURCE_AI_ACCESS_ADMIN_PERMISSIONS rather than on a per-resource edit decision for the specific cluster row. OneUptime's authorization model layers project permissions with per-row ACLs that account for labels and owners (the KubernetesCluster Update gate, mirrored server-side by assertCanEditCluster), so a member could satisfy the project-level check while failing the cluster-level check and still reach four surfaces: the AI access test, the agent reset, kubectl plan approval, and the incident AI conversation. Because the vulnerable check short-circuited at project scope, custom roles and label- or owner-restricted clusters were bypassable. The upstream fix (commit 264e1ba13149cbd4c80cb22f2177b405886b0452) adds an edit-scope evaluation for the target resource to the admin-set gate and adds Postgres-backed tests that clone team, custom-role, API-key, label, cluster and Docker-host tables into an isolated schema to verify that label-limited, owner-limited and blocked clusters are enforced through the real user middleware, including kubectl plan approval and incident AI read-only command routing.

DescriptionCVE.org
OneUptime 14.0.2 before 14.0.69 contains an incorrect authorization vulnerability that allows authenticated project members to act on clusters outside their scope by exploiting project-wide permission checks. Attackers can call the AI access test, agent reset, kubectl plan approval and incident AI conversation features to learn agent RBAC permissions, disconnect agents, approve kubectl changes, or run commands on unauthorized resources.
