| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitable only when the File Force Download module version 7.1.0 through 7.1.2 is installed on Drupal 7 AND the target file resides in the temporary:// scheme or in a stream wrapper supplied by another module; the attacker simply appends the download=1 query parameter to that file's URL, and the module returns its Content-Disposition header without delegating to other modules' access checks (which it only did for the private scheme). No authentication is required (PR:N) and no user interaction (UI:N). Limiting factors: files served from the public:// and private:// schemes are explicitly NOT affected, so sites that store no sensitive files in temporary:// or custom stream wrappers are not meaningfully exposed; the vulnerable contributed module must be present, and exposure depends on an attacker being able to reach or guess the specific file URL. |
| Impact | The source CVSS 4.0 score of 8.7 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N) describes a remotely reachable, low-complexity, unauthenticated flaw with high confidentiality impact and no integrity or availability impact - consistent with the CWE-863 authorization/access-bypass nature of the bug. These signals point to trivial exploitation (just an HTTP request with download=1), but several real-world-risk signals are either moderate or absent: the vuln.today decision label is 'this_week' (not act_now/emergency), the vulnerability is NOT listed in CISA KEV, no EPSS exploitation-probability score was supplied, and no confirmed public exploit code is present in the input (the two references are vendor/third-party advisories, not PoC/exploit listings). The practical risk is further scoped by preconditions: only files in the temporary:// scheme or in a stream wrapper supplied by another module are exposed, while files in the default public:// and private:// schemes are explicitly unaffected, and the vulnerable File Force Download module (versions 7.1.0-7.1.2) must be installed on a Drupal 7 site. Net assessment: a genuine unauthenticated information-disclosure issue that warrants prompt patching on affected installations, but its blast radius is limited to a specific contributed module and non-default file schemes rather than being a widespread internet-wide emergency; the high CVSS reflects ease of exploitation, not ubiquity of exposure. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An unauthenticated attacker who knows or guesses the URL of a file stored in the temporary:// scheme (or in a custom stream wrapper provided by another module) on a Drupal 7 site running File Force Download 7.1.0-7.1.2 appends download=1 to that URL. The module returns a non-empty Content-Disposition header, which Drupal 7 treats as a grant of access, so the file is served despite the access checks that should have denied it. No public exploit was identified at time of analysis, though the technique is simple to reproduce from the advisory given AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 31, 2026
Unauthenticated file disclosure in the Drupal 7 File Force Download module (versions 7.1.0 through 7.1.2) allows a remote visitor to append download=1 to a file URL and retrieve files stored in the temporary:// scheme or in a stream wrapper supplied by another module without the access checks that should apply. Files in the public:// and private:// schemes are explicitly not affected, and the supplied data contains no indication of active exploitation; no public exploit identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
The supplied data does not list an exact fixed release for CVE-2026-110176, so confirm the current fixed version in the vendor advisories at https://d7es.tag1.com/security-advisories/file-force-download-critical-access-bypass and https://www.herodevs.com/vulnerability-directory/cve-2026-110176 before upgrading the module on Drupal 7. If an immediate fixed release is not available, disable or uninstall File Force Download; this removes the vulnerable hook implementation and the download-header behavior but may break file-download functionality that depends on the module. Also move or avoid storing sensitive files in temporary:// and third-party stream wrappers, because those are the schemes named as exploitable, while public:// and private:// are explicitly unaffected.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The issue is an authorization bypass (CWE-863) in a Drupal 7 contributed module that implements hook_file_download(). In Drupal 7, returning a non-empty header array from hook_file_download() is interpreted as granting access to the requested file. File Force Download 7.1.0 through 7.1.2 returned a Content-Disposition header for files carrying the download query parameter, but delegated to other modules' hook_file_download() implementations only when the file used the private:// scheme; for schemes other than private://, including temporary:// and custom wrappers, it returned its headers without delegating to those access checks. The CPE maps the affected component to drupal:file_force_download. The provided evidence does not describe any further trigger mechanism beyond the crafted download=1 URL parameter; the independent assessment confirms remote, low-complexity, unauthenticated exploitation (PR:N, UI:N) with high confidentiality impact only.

Lifecycle Timeline
2DescriptionCVE.org
The File Force Download module for Drupal 7 implements hook_file_download() to add a Content-Disposition header when a file URL carries the download query parameter. In Drupal 7, returning a non-empty header array from that hook is itself a grant of access to the file.
In versions 7.1.0 through 7.1.2, the module only delegated to other modules' hook_file_download() implementations when the file was in the private scheme. For every other scheme it returned its headers without any check. An unauthenticated visitor who appended download=1 to the URL of a file in the temporary:// scheme, or in a stream wrapper supplied by another module, could retrieve the file, overriding the access checks that would otherwise have applied. Files in the public and private schemes are not affected.
Executive ViewAI
An unauthenticated file disclosure vulnerability (CVE-2026-110176, CVSS 8.7) in the Drupal 7 File Force Download module (versions 7.1.0-7.1.2) allows remote visitors to bypass access controls and retrieve files stored in temporary or custom stream wrappers. While public:// and private:// files are unaffected, any sensitive data in temporary or third-party module storage could be exposed, posing a risk to confidentiality and regulatory compliance.
Restrict web access to temporary:// and custom stream wrapper directories via server rules (e.g., .htaccess, Nginx location blocks); remove sensitive files from affected schemes; implement additional Drupal access controls; monitor for suspicious download attempts.
