MITRE ATT&CK
2 techniques across 2 tactics: Initial Access, Persistence The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires an authenticated low-privilege session (CVSS PR:L) and the ability to supply a 'calculated field' expression that reaches Utils.buildCalcField in io/dataease/engine/utils/Utils.java, where the argument is concatenated into a SQL statement. The patch indicates the shared-link/public-link path (DeLinkAop / LinkInterceptor) is also relevant, so a valid share-link token identity may suffice instead of a full account. Limiting factors: the attacker cannot act fully unauthenticated - some valid credential or share-link identity is needed - which meaningfully reduces exposure versus a pre-auth flaw; affects DataEase versions up to and including 3.0.0. |
| Impact | This is a moderate-priority issue rather than an emergency. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N) and the base score of 5.3 indicate network-reachable, low-complexity exploitation, but PR:L confirms the attacker must already hold valid low-privilege credentials - a fact corroborated by the independent researcher's repository explicitly titled 'DataEase-Authenticated-SQL-Injection'. Exploitation signals are mixed: publicly available exploit code exists (a gist POC) and the CVSS 4.0 exploit-maturity flag is E:P (Proof-of-Concept), but there is NO CISA KEV listing and NO EPSS score provided, so there is no evidence of active, widespread exploitation. The reported impact is deliberately conservative (VC:L/VI:L/VA:L), which is unusual for SQL injection (CWE-89 often yields high confidentiality impact); this likely reflects that the affected calculated-field function operates within an already-authenticated BI data context, limiting incremental gain. The source identifier is a single source (VulDB), and no independent vendor security advisory text was provided - only a merged patch PR. Net: a real, confirmed, patchable flaw worth remediating promptly, but the authentication requirement and absence of KEV/EPSS argue against treating it as a drop-everything, internet-wide crisis. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker who holds a valid low-privilege DataEase account (or a shared-link identity) submits a crafted value in the 'calculated field' argument, which Utils.buildCalcField concatenates into a backend SQL query, injecting attacker-controlled SQL. A public proof-of-concept exploit is available as a gist, lowering the barrier to reproduction. The low attack complexity (AC:L) means a single crafted request over the network triggers the injection without special timing or race conditions. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 12, 2026
SQL injection in DataEase up to and including 3.0.0 allows an authenticated low-privilege user - or the holder of a valid share-link identity - to inject SQL through a crafted calculated-field expression that is concatenated into a query by Utils.buildCalcField (io/dataease/engine/utils/Utils.java). Because a valid identity is required (CVSS PR:L), the assessed impact is limited to low confidentiality, integrity, and availability loss rather than full database takeover, and publicly available exploit code exists for this flaw. There is no indication that it is confirmed actively exploited (no CISA KEV listing), so it should be treated as a moderate-priority issue rather than an emergency.
RemediationAI
Apply the vendor fix - commit 8509e218e6c1f0080eee9e379f269b2104785ef7, delivered via PR https://github.com/dataease/dataease/pull/19285 - and upgrade to a DataEase build that contains it; because the reference is an upstream commit rather than a tagged release, confirm with the vendor or the project repository which numbered version first ships it before assuming a release is clean. If immediate patching is not possible, compensating controls with explicit trade-offs are: disable public/share-link access to dashboards and require full authenticated accounts (this breaks legitimate external sharing and anonymous viewing), and restrict creation or saving of calculated fields to trusted administrator roles (this degrades self-service BI for regular analysts). Additionally, restrict network reachability of the DataEase web tier to trusted networks or a VPN, and run the backing database account with least privilege and no DDL/file-write rights so that successful injection yields limited data rather than schema or host compromise - though neither control removes the underlying concatenation flaw. Monitor database and application logs for anomalous SQL in calculated-field parameters, and note that public proof-of-concept material (https://gist.github.com/k4z01/536b77dfe537e84ca1047c94cc36ef22 and the associated write-up) lowers the effort required to attempt exploitation, making timely upgrade the priority.

Technical ContextAI · show details
DataEase is an open-source business-intelligence and data-visualization platform with a Java/Spring backend; its "calculated field" feature lets users define derived expressions that the engine translates into SQL. The vulnerable function, Utils.buildCalcField in io/dataease/engine/utils/Utils.java, builds that SQL through unsanitized string concatenation of the attacker-supplied calculated-field argument, the classic CWE-89 root cause in which data is placed into a query string without parameter binding or identifier allowlisting, so an injected payload alters the executed statement. The upstream fix commit 8509e218e6c1f0080eee9e379f269b2104785ef7 / PR #19285 shows the attack surface also spans the shared-link code path: it replaces direct JWT.decode() of the link token with an identity resolved via V3UserUtil, adds a checkChart() routine that verifies a requested chart's sceneId matches the shared resourceId and that its tableId matches the stored chart, and blocks parameters whose resourceTable is not 'core' or whose source is 'main-edit', i.e. share links must no longer reach editor snapshots or recover them. The supplied CPE (cpe:2.3:a:n/a:dataease:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*) is generic - vendor field is 'n/a' and the version is wildcarded - so the authoritative affected range is the advisory text: DataEase up to and including 3.0.0. Reported via VulDB; tagged SQLi/DataEase.

A flaw has been found in DataEase up to 3.0.0. The impacted element is the function Utils.buildCalcField of the file io/dataease/engine/utils/Utils.java. This manipulation of the argument calculated field causes sql injection. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. The exploit has been published and may be used. Patch name: 8509e218e6c1f0080eee9e379f269b2104785ef7. It is recommended to apply a patch to fix this issue.
