Remote unauthenticated single-request crash of default config gives AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N; pure worker-kill DoS means C:N/I:N/A:H - I set I:N, diverging from the vendor's weakly-supported I:L.

webonyx graphql-php is a PHP implementation of the GraphQL specification. Prior to 15.32.3, GraphQL\Language\Parser performs recursive descent without a recursion limit in parseSelectionSet, parseValueLiteral, and parseTypeReference. A remote attacker can submit deeply nested selection sets, object or list values, or list types that exhaust the PHP process stack during pre-validation parsing, before query validation and complexity controls run. The resulting SIGSEGV can terminate PHP-FPM workers or long-running Swoole, RoadRunner, ReactPHP, or CLI processes and cannot be caught by application-level exception handling. This issue is fixed in version 15.32.3.

AnalysisAI
Deeply nested GraphQL documents can crash PHP worker processes running the webonyx/graphql-php library in versions 15.32.2 and earlier, because the recursive-descent parser has no recursion depth limit and the resulting stack exhaustion becomes an uncatchable SIGSEGV. The flaw is remotely reachable unauthenticated (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H, 8.2) and the failure occurs during parsing, before query validation, depth analysis or complexity controls ever execute, so worker processes on PHP-FPM, Swoole, RoadRunner, ReactPHP or CLI runtimes are killed with no exception, log entry or recovery path. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | The target application must expose a GraphQL endpoint that passes untrusted input through GraphQL\Language\Parser (the default parsing path) on a vulnerable version (<= 15.32.2), where no recursion limit existed at all. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuine availability risk but not a top-tier emergency. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade to webonyx/graphql-php 15.32.3 or later (Composer tag v15.32.3, fixing commits 7b7f2080ca5f7d5340a696fc5701b19a9222d2c2 and 6c1d6009a0f7557f66753bcfd07badd15acf77f4, advisory https://github.com/webonyx/graphql-php/security/advisories/GHSA-r7cg-qjjm-xhqq); the fix is active by default because the parser now enforces DEFAULT_RECURSION_LIMIT = 256, shared across parseSelectionSet, parseValueLiteral and parseTypeReference, throwing a catchable SyntaxError before the stack can overflow, and it can be tuned via the recursionLimit parser option. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
