| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires that the YesWiki instance expose the ActivityPub/WebFinger functionality - specifically the 'abonnements' view backed by WebfingerService - to the attacker, and that the attacker can supply an actor_handle with a numeric host and port. Per the CVSS vector (PR:N/UI:N), no authentication or user interaction is required against affected default-reachable deployments of YesWiki before 4.6.7. The primary limiting factors are: the instance must be running a vulnerable version (<4.6.7), the WebFinger/subscription feature must be reachable, and impact is constrained to triggering outbound HTTPS requests to numeric hosts/ports (internal service and port probing) rather than arbitrary-scheme or full-response SSRF. |
| Impact | This is a moderate-priority vulnerability. The provided CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N) confirms a network-reachable, low-complexity, unauthenticated flaw requiring no user interaction, which raises its real-world accessibility. However, the impact is deliberately scoped: VC:L and VA:L with VI:N, consistent with an SSRF that enables internal probing/port-scanning rather than full data exfiltration or code execution - the base score of 6.9 (Medium) reflects this limited impact. No EPSS score was provided, and exploitation status is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis' (not in CISA KEV, no POC referenced). The signals are internally consistent: a genuinely easy-to-reach bug with a bounded blast radius. It is a real issue worth patching promptly for internet-exposed YesWiki instances, but it is not a drop-everything critical - it is a stepping-stone/reconnaissance primitive (internal HTTPS service and port discovery) rather than a direct compromise. Note the vector limits SSRF to HTTPS requests against numeric hosts/ports via the WebfingerService, which narrows but does not eliminate pivoting potential. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An unauthenticated attacker sends a POST request to the abonnements view containing a crafted ActivityPub actor_handle whose host is a numeric internal IP and whose port targets an internal HTTPS service. YesWiki's WebfingerService issues the outbound HTTPS request on the attacker's behalf, and differences in response or timing let the attacker enumerate reachable internal hosts and open ports behind the firewall. No public exploit is identified at time of analysis, but exploitation is straightforward given AC:L and PR:N. |

Server-side request forgery in YesWiki before 4.6.7 allows unauthenticated attackers to make the WebFinger subscription ('abonnements') view issue outbound HTTPS requests to attacker-supplied numeric internal hosts and ports, enabling blind probing of internal services. The flaw sits in WebfingerService, which processes a POSTed actor_handle without validating the destination host, and carries a CVSS 4.0 base score of 6.9 (independent assessment: CVSS 3.1 AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:N/A:N), confirming no authentication or user interaction is required wherever the ActivityPub/WebFinger feature is reachable. Impact is constrained to triggering outbound HTTPS connection attempts - an information-disclosure/port-probing primitive rather than full-response or arbitrary-scheme SSRF - and no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, although the request pattern is straightforward to script. This is a moderate-priority vulnerability.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: YesWiki 4.6.7 - upgrade all instances running any version below 4.6.7 to 4.6.7 or later following the vendor advisory GHSA-x4mq-qxvc-g82j (https://github.com/YesWiki/yeswiki/security/advisories/GHSA-x4mq-qxvc-g82j) and the VulnCheck advisory (https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/yeswiki-before-4.6.7-ssrf-via-activitypub-webfinger-actor-handle). If immediate patching is not possible, the most effective compensating control is to disable or restrict access to the ActivityPub/WebFinger subscription feature - take the 'abonnements' view out of public reach (authentication gate, reverse-proxy rule, or feature toggle) - with the trade-off that legitimate federation and subscription workflows stop working for external users. Secondly, apply outbound egress filtering on the web server so it cannot initiate HTTPS connections to RFC1918, loopback, link-local, or the server's own management ranges, which neutralizes the probing primitive at the cost of potentially blocking legitimate federated subscription targets that live on internal networks. Blocking or rate-limiting POSTs to the abonnements endpoint at the WAF/proxy layer offers partial mitigation only, since the crafted actor_handle is a normal-looking form field and bypasses are likely; monitoring outbound HTTPS connection logs for requests to non-public IP addresses provides detection where prevention is incomplete. Note that patch availability is confirmed by the vendor and by the reference set, so no unpatched-deployment justification should remain once 4.6.7 is deployable.

Technical ContextAI · show details
YesWiki is a PHP-based wiki/collaboration platform that optionally implements ActivityPub federation, including WebFinger discovery, so that instances can subscribe to remote actors. The vulnerable component, WebfingerService, is reached through the 'abonnements' (subscriptions) view: an attacker POSTs an actor_handle containing a numeric host and port, and the server resolves and connects to that destination over HTTPS without checking whether the target is a private, loopback, or link-local address. This is classic CWE-918 (Server-Side Request Forgery): the root cause is a missing allow-list/deny-list validation of the resolved destination before the outbound request is made, combined with the use of user-controlled input as the request target. Because the attacker only controls the destination and not the scheme or the returned body, the practical effect is a blind SSRF - the attacker can infer internal host and port reachability from timing or error behavior, but cannot read arbitrary internal responses. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:yeswiki:yeswiki:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* is a wildcard entry, and ENISA EUVD enumerates the affected range as yeswiki 0 through versions below 4.6.7; the assessed scope change (S:C) reflects that the outbound request leaves the vulnerable component and reaches third-party internal infrastructure.

1DescriptionCVE.org
YesWiki before 4.6.7 contains a server-side request forgery vulnerability in WebfingerService that allows unauthenticated attackers to trigger HTTPS requests to internal hosts. Attackers can POST a crafted actor_handle with a numeric host and port to the abonnements view to probe internal HTTPS services and ports.
