| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires (1) an authenticated account on the SparkyFitness instance (CVSS PR:L), and (2) the ability to save a custom AI service URL - specifically the custom/ollama/openai_compatible provider settings - and then invoke an affected AI flow (the chat service or the label/food-photo scan service). On vulnerable versions prior to 1.6.0 there is no destination validation, so any authenticated user can point the AI provider at internal/private addresses. Limiting factors: the attacker must first obtain valid credentials (not unauthenticated), the impact is bounded to outbound POSTs with a controlled bearer value, internal-service probing, and disclosure of the AI system prompt rather than direct code execution, and the fixed 1.6.0 enforces an outbound URL policy where private-network AI targets are blocked by default (HTTP 403) unless an admin explicitly sets ALLOW_PRIVATE_NETWORK_AI=true or the setting is global admin-created. |
| Impact | This is a server-side request forgery (CWE-918) in SparkyFitness that carries a moderate CVSS 3.1 base score of 5.4 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N). The CVSS vector confirms network attack vector with low complexity but requires authenticated access (PR:L), meaning an attacker must already hold a valid low-privilege account on the instance. No EPSS score, CISA KEV listing, POC, or SSVC decision data was provided in the input; therefore there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no evidence of active exploitation. The scope is unchanged (S:U) and impact is limited to low confidentiality and low integrity with no availability effect, which is consistent with an SSRF that can probe internal services, issue outbound POSTs with a controlled bearer token, and leak the AI system prompt, but not directly achieve RCE or data destruction. Net assessment: a genuine but secondary-priority issue - the authentication requirement and self-hosted, niche deployment footprint substantially limit real-world exploitation compared to an unauthenticated internet-facing SSRF. The absence of EPSS/KEV/POC signals (not a conflict, simply missing enrichment) reinforces treating this as patch-on-normal-cycle rather than emergency. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A registered SparkyFitness user with a valid account sets a custom AI service URL in their settings pointing at an internal address (e.g. a cloud metadata endpoint or an internal admin service) and triggers an AI flow such as chat or label/food-photo scanning. The server then issues an outbound POST to the attacker-chosen destination carrying a controlled bearer value, letting the attacker map internal services and capture the disclosed AI system prompt. No public exploit code was identified at time of analysis, but the attack is straightforward and well understood given the committed fix. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 16, 2026
Server-side request forgery in SparkyFitness (self-hosted AI health and fitness tracker) before version 1.6.0 lets an authenticated user point the built-in custom AI service configuration at arbitrary internal or private network addresses, causing the server to issue outbound POST requests carrying an attacker-controlled bearer token and to leak the AI system prompt. Exploitation requires a valid account and the ability to save a custom AI provider URL (custom, ollama, or openai_compatible) and then trigger an AI flow such as chat or the label/food-photo scan, matching the assessed vector CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N (5.4). No public exploit code and no confirmed active exploitation (CISA KEV) were identified at time of analysis; impact is bounded to internal-service probing, forged outbound POSTs, and prompt disclosure rather than code execution. The issue is fixed in 1.6.0, which enforces an outbound URL policy that rejects private-network AI destinations with HTTP 403 by default.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade to SparkyFitness 1.6.0 (release tag v1.6.0, commit 0b43a37003a3fbedf4e38058130460fd4707fe29), which validates AI provider destinations through utils/outboundUrlPolicy.ts and returns HTTP 403 with the private_network_forbidden category for private/internal targets by default; see the vendor advisory at https://github.com/CodeWithCJ/SparkyFitness/security/advisories/GHSA-rmxj-43xh-mcm3. If upgrading immediately is not possible, restrict the ability to save custom AI service URLs to administrators only (or disable the custom/ollama/openai_compatible provider options for non-admin accounts) and audit existing AI service configurations for unexpected internal hostnames or IP literals - this removes the attacker-controlled destination but means ordinary users lose self-service AI provider setup. As a network-level compensating control, constrain the SparkyFitness server's egress with firewall or DNS rules that block outbound connections to loopback, RFC1918, link-local (169.254.0.0/16, fd00::/8), and cloud metadata addresses; be aware this will break legitimate self-hosted providers such as an on-premises Ollama instance unless those specific destinations are allowlisted. Post-upgrade, leave ALLOW_PRIVATE_NETWORK_AI unset (default off) unless self-hosted private AI providers are genuinely required, in which case understand that re-enabling it restores the SSRF exposure for the affected flows; monitor server logs for the private_network_forbidden / 'AI provider not allowed' signal as an indicator that a user attempted to target an internal address.

Technical ContextAI · show details
This is a classic server-side request forgery (CWE-918) in the TypeScript/Node.js SparkyFitness backend (SparkyFitnessServer). The vulnerable components, services/chatService.ts and services/labelScanService.ts, take an operator- or user-configured AI service base URL (used for the custom, ollama, and openai_compatible provider modes) and hand it to the outbound HTTP layer without validating the resolved destination, so any host reachable from the server - including loopback, RFC1918 ranges, link-local metadata endpoints, and internal admin services - can be targeted. Because the AI provider requests include a configured bearer credential, the SSRF is not a blind read primitive: the attacker controls the Authorization header value, and error/output paths can also surface the AI system prompt. The 1.6.0 fix (commit 0b43a37003a3fbedf4e38058130460fd4707fe29) introduces utils/outboundUrlPolicy.ts with createGuardedFetch/createGuardedDispatcher, assertOutboundUrlShapeAndLiteralAllowed, PUBLIC_ONLY_AI_NETWORK_POLICY, and requiresUserSuppliedAiUrl, applies the policy both at settings save/test time and again in the runtime fetch path, sets redirect: 'manual' for Ollama calls, and surfaces a distinct private_network_forbidden error category (HTTP 403, mapped client-side to 'AI provider not allowed'). A new server toggle, ALLOW_PRIVATE_NETWORK_AI (default off), restores private-address AI targets for global/admin-created settings and for admins running self-hosted providers such as Ollama.

Lifecycle Timeline
1DescriptionCVE.org
SparkyFitness is a self-hosted, AI-powered health and fitness tracker for families. Prior to 1.6.0, SparkyFitnessServer/services/chatService.ts and SparkyFitnessServer/services/labelScanService.ts do not validate destinations supplied in custom AI service settings. An authenticated user saves a custom AI service URL and invokes an affected AI flow. The user can save a custom AI service URL and trigger an outbound request. Successful exploitation can send server-side POST requests with a controlled bearer value, probe internal services, and disclose the AI system prompt. This issue is fixed in version 1.6.0.
