Budibase versions before 3.45.0 fail to validate per-app authorization in the POST /api/global/groups/:groupId/apps endpoint, allowing builders to assign application roles across workspace boundaries. A builder of a single workspace can exploit missing per-app authorization checks to grant themselves admin roles in other workspaces by modifying user group role mappings.
AnalysisAI
Authenticated privilege escalation in Budibase Server before 3.45.0 lets a low-privileged 'builder' account grant itself administrative roles in other workspaces. The flaw resides in the POST /api/global/groups/:groupId/apps endpoint, which fails to validate per-app authorization, allowing a builder who only has rights in one workspace to rewrite user-group role mappings for applications outside their own tenant boundary. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Requires an authenticated low-privileged 'builder' account in at least one Budibase workspace, and the target must be a multi-workspace deployment (shared/multi-tenant hosting) so that other workspaces exist to attack. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuine authorization flaw with real privilege-escalation impact, but the raw 8.6 score overstates the immediate threat. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade Budibase Server to 3.45.0 or later, which is the vendor-released fix that restores per-app authorization checks on POST /api/global/groups/:groupId/apps; the patch is confirmed available from the vendor and full details are in the advisory at https://github.com/Budibase/budibase/security/advisories/GHSA-pp5r-q4fp-mcj3. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory every Budibase Server instance and identify any running a version earlier than 3.45.0, prioritizing internet-facing and multi-tenant or multi-workspace deployments; upgrade those systems to Budibase Server 3.45.0, the vendor-released patch version, and in parallel review builder accounts plus recent changes to user-group role mappings made through POST /api/global/groups/:groupId/apps for signs of unauthorized escalation. …
