| Exploitation Conditions | Requires a confluence of specific conditions: (1) the server runs a plugin that uses InventoryGui's GuiStorageElement AND that plugin permits taking items out of that element; (2) the experimental Bundle item feature is enabled on the server; and (3) per the patch, a server version prior to Minecraft 1.21.9 (the fix disables GuiStorageElement unless running 1.21.9+ or the forceAllow system property is set). The attacker must be an authenticated in-game player (PR:L) interacting with the affected GUI. Limiting factors: the Bundle feature is experimental/non-default, GuiStorageElement with item-removal is a plugin-specific choice, and the impact is confined to game-economy integrity (item duplication) with no confidentiality or availability effect. Workaround per vendor: do not use GuiStorageElement. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but low-to-moderate priority issue, not a high-impact remote code execution threat. The vendor-supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N) scores 5.3 (medium) and reflects only integrity impact (VI:L/SI:L) with no confidentiality or availability effect (VC:N/VA:N) - consistent with CWE-837 and the described item-duplication (economy-integrity) outcome rather than data theft or server compromise. All signals point the same direction and reinforce low urgency: EPSS is 0.22% (12th percentile), the CVE is NOT in CISA KEV, and no public exploit code is referenced in the provided data. PR:L confirms an authenticated actor (an in-game player) is required, and exploitation further depends on a specific, non-default server state (the experimental Bundle item feature) plus a plugin that both uses GuiStorageElement and permits item removal. The one caveat: the vendor's own fix gates GuiStorageElement behind server version 1.21.9+, implying the vulnerable behavior is tied to pre-1.21.9 handling of bundles - this version nuance is not captured in the CVSS vector and should be confirmed against your deployed Minecraft server version. Net: a real integrity bug worth patching in affected plugin ecosystems, but not a widespread or urgently-exploited threat. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A low-privileged player on a Bukkit/Spigot server that has the experimental Bundle item feature enabled and runs a plugin using InventoryGui's GuiStorageElement (configured to allow taking items out) manipulates the storage GUI with a bundle item to clone items, duplicating in-game assets. No public exploit code is identified in the provided data, and exploitation requires the attacker to already be an authenticated player (PR:L). |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 08, 2026
Item duplication in InventoryGui before version 1.6.5 affects any Bukkit/Spigot plugin whose GUI uses the library's GuiStorageElement and allows players to take items out of that element while the server's experimental Bundle item feature is enabled. An authenticated in-game player interacting with such a GUI can duplicate items, an integrity-only impact confined to in-game economy; there is no confidentiality or availability effect. No public exploit code was identified at time of analysis, EPSS is very low (0.22%, 12th percentile), and the vendor has released a patch in version 1.6.5 that primarily disables GuiStorageElement on servers older than Minecraft 1.21.9.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade InventoryGui to version 1.6.5 (or the 1.6.5-SNAPSHOT build) via the Maven dependency de.themoep:inventorygui, per GHSA-7whh-79j3-7c55 and commit 690fc91d137c6cc04f6ed3a89449050964dd8cb9. Be aware that the patch's primary behavior is to disable GuiStorageElement entirely on servers older than Minecraft 1.21.9, throwing UnsupportedOperationException; plugins relying on that element on such servers will break until the server is upgraded, so plan the library bump together with a Minecraft 1.21.9+ upgrade or refactor affected GUIs. Setting the system property de.themoep.inventorygui.GuiStorageElement.forceAllow=true bypasses the new guard for internal-use-only elements, but it reinstates the vulnerable code path and should not be used for elements that let players remove items. The vendor-documented workaround is simply not to use GuiStorageElement; alternatively, disable the experimental Bundle item feature on the server, at the cost of losing bundle functionality for players. Because exploitation requires an authenticated player interacting with a specific GUI, additional interim controls such as restricting who can access the affected GUI, auditing plugin code for GuiStorageElement usage, and monitoring for anomalous item/economy inflation are reasonable compensating measures. No public exploit code was identified at time of analysis and EPSS is 0.22% (12th percentile), so prioritization can be driven by whether your server runs pre-1.21.9 with experimental bundles and a storage-element GUI.

Technical ContextAI · show details
InventoryGui is a Java library (Maven coordinate de.themoep:inventorygui) that Bukkit/Spigot plugin developers use to build chest-style GUIs. Its GuiStorageElement class binds a GUI slot character to a backing Inventory, and by default lets items be taken out of that backing storage. The root cause class is CWE-837, Improper Enforcement of a Single, Unique Action: when the server has the experimental Bundle item feature enabled, a single click can be processed such that the item is both deposited into the player's bundle and retained/returned in the GUI storage, producing a duplication. The upstream fix (commit 690fc91d137c6cc04f6ed3a89449050964dd8cb9, released as 1.6.5) adds a version gate that throws UnsupportedOperationException when Bukkit.getUnsafe().getDataVersion() is below 4554 (Minecraft 1.21.9) unless the system property de.themoep.inventorygui.GuiStorageElement.forceAllow is set, and rewrites click handling to compare the clicked slot item against the computed storage item (including a check for bundle-type materials) and to redraw the GUI when they diverge or when the storage index is out of bounds. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:phoenix616:inventorygui:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* captures all pre-1.6.5 releases. The vendor/NVD CVSS 4.0 score is 5.3 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VI:L/SI:L), while the independent assessment assigns CVSS 3.1 AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N, reflecting that exploitation requires a confluence of non-default conditions (GuiStorageElement in use with item removal, experimental bundles enabled, server below 1.21.9) rather than a straightforward remote compromise.

DescriptionCVE.org
InventoryGui is a library for creating chest GUIs for Bukkit/Spigot plugins. Versions before 1.6.5 contain a vulnerability where any plugin using a GUI with the GuiStorageElement and allows taking out items out of that element can allow item duplication when the experimental Bundle item feature is enabled on the server. The vulnerability is resolved in version 1.6.5.
