Exploitation Conditions

Two concrete conditions must both hold: (1) the server operator has enabled the currently experimental Minecraft 'Bundle' items feature, and (2) a plugin on that server builds a GUI using InventoryGui's GuiStorageElement. The attacker must be an authenticated player on the server and must actively interact with that GUI (right-click involving a bundle item). Limiting factors: the bundle feature is experimental and off by default, exploitation requires an in-game authenticated player rather than a remote unauthenticated attacker, and only plugins using GuiStorageElement are affected - operators can fully mitigate by disabling the bundle experiment or avoiding GuiStorageElement.

Impact

This is a genuine but modest-priority issue, not a critical one. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 5.9 (Medium), and the vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:P) shows the integrity impact is real (VI:H) but gated behind an attack requirement (AT:P), low privileges (PR:L - an authenticated player), and user interaction. Confidentiality impact is explicitly none (VC:N), so this is purely an integrity/economy problem (item duplication), consistent with CWE-837 (improper enforcement of a single unique action). Corroborating signals point the same direction: EPSS is low at 0.26% (16th percentile), there is no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit code was identified - only the patch commit, GHSA advisory, and issue thread. The signals are internally consistent (low likelihood, bounded impact, non-default precondition), with no sharp conflicts. The one caveat worth noting: the AT:P metric and the advisory both make clear exploitation depends on the server operator enabling the experimental 'Bundle' items feature, which materially narrows the exploitable population below what AV:N alone might suggest.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

On a Minecraft server running a plugin that uses InventoryGui's GuiStorageElement and has the experimental 'Bundle' item feature enabled, an ordinary authenticated player opens the plugin's chest GUI and right-clicks using a bundle item to trigger the flawed click handling, causing items to be duplicated into their inventory. No public exploit code was identified at time of analysis; the attack is low-complexity but requires the non-default bundle feature to be active.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 08, 2026

Item duplication in InventoryGui (a Bukkit/Spigot library for building chest-based GUIs) affects all versions up to and including 1.6.3-SNAPSHOT when a plugin uses the GuiStorageElement on a server that has the experimental Minecraft "Bundle" item feature enabled. An authenticated in-game player (CVSS vector PR:L, UI:R) who right-clicks a bundle item in such a GUI can cause items to be duplicated, resulting in a limited integrity impact; confidentiality and availability are not affected. The issue is confirmed only when both preconditions hold - the bundle experiment is turned on and the GUI is built with GuiStorageElement - so the practical risk is genuine but modest, and no public exploit code or active exploitation (no CISA KEV listing) has been identified at time of analysis; EPSS is a low 0.26% (16th percentile). A vendor fix exists in 1.6.4-SNAPSHOT (commit 00e684bd backported to 1.6.3-SNAPSHOT).

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: 1.6.4-SNAPSHOT - upgrade the InventoryGui dependency to that version (the fix commit https://github.com/Phoenix616/InventoryGui/commit/00e684bd689ebc60bcb5b83ce4ef3c5a01778494 was also backported into the 1.6.3-SNAPSHOT line, but 1.6.4-SNAPSHOT is the version guaranteed to contain it), then rebuild and redeploy every dependent plugin and restart the server. Per the advisory at https://github.com/Phoenix616/InventoryGui/security/advisories/GHSA-rgvh-4m82-fvjq, operators who cannot update immediately have two effective workarounds: disable the experimental "Bundle" items experiment for the world (the feature is off by default, so simply not enabling it or reverting the experiment removes the trigger entirely - the trade-off is that players lose bundle functionality), or ensure no deployed plugin builds GUIs using GuiStorageElement, which fully removes the vulnerable code path but requires auditing plugin source or configs and may break storage-backed menu layouts. Because exploitation requires an authenticated in-game player right-clicking a bundle inside a GuiStorageElement GUI, restricting or monitoring player-driven GUI interactions is only a partial compensating control and should not replace the upgrade. Patch status is confirmed available per vendor advisory; no exploitation of this issue has been observed in the wild.

Technical ContextAI · show details

InventoryGui is a Java library (maven/de.themoep:inventorygui) used by Bukkit/Spigot plugins to render inventory menus. The affected component is GuiStorageElement, which exposes a real inventory as a slot inside a GUI and delegates click handling to Bukkit's inventory event system. CWE-837 (Improper Enforcement of a Single, Unique Action) describes the root cause: the click handler did not guard against the special right-click semantics of Minecraft's experimental Bundle item, which can absorb or release contents from the cursor. Because that path was not short-circuited, the plugin could both transfer the item and re-render the storage slot, yielding a duplicated stack. The upstream patch adds an explicit ClickType.RIGHT check that inspects the cursor item, the storage item, and the slot item for a bundle (item key containing "bundle") and, if matched, forces a GUI redraw and returns true to cancel event processing - effectively blocking the ambiguous click before any state change occurs. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:phoenix616:inventorygui:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* marks every published version through 1.6.3-SNAPSHOT as affected; the bundle feature itself is an experimental, off-by-default Minecraft world setting, which is the principal limiting factor.
