Impact

Access to internal services, cloud metadata endpoints, or other resources not intended to be publicly accessible. Can lead to data exfiltration or further exploitation. With a CVSS score of 7.5 (HIGH), this represents a significant risk.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker provides a URL pointing to an internal service (e.g., http://169.254.169.254/latest/meta-data/) through a vulnerable parameter, causing the server to fetch and return internal data.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Apache HTTP Server installations on Windows with specific configurations are vulnerable to credential theft through SSRF attacks, potentially exposing NTLM authentication hashes to unauthorized parties. This affects organizations running affected Apache versions and could lead to lateral movement and unauthorized access if credentials are compromised.

Business Impact: High
Compensating Controls

Disable AllowEncodedSlashes directive or set MergeSlashes On to eliminate attack vector; implement WAF rules blocking double-encoded slash patterns (%252F); restrict outbound network access from Apache servers using firewall rules; segment Apache servers on isolated VLANs; enforce network-level controls preventing credential exposure to external hosts; monitor outbound NTLM authentication attempts; enable request logging and SIEM alerting for suspicious patterns.
