DescriptionNVD
Twisted is an event-based framework for internet applications, supporting Python 3.6+. Prior to 22.2.0, Twisted SSH client and server implement is able to accept an infinite amount of data for the peer's SSH version identifier. This ends up with a buffer using all the available memory. The attach is a simple as nc -rv localhost 22 < /dev/zero. A patch is available in version 22.2.0. There are currently no known workarounds.
AnalysisAI
Twisted is an event-based framework for internet applications, supporting Python 3.6+. Rated high severity (CVSS 7.5), this vulnerability is remotely exploitable, no authentication required, low attack complexity. Public exploit code available.
Technical ContextAI
This vulnerability is classified as Buffer Copy without Size Check (CWE-120), which allows attackers to overflow a buffer to corrupt adjacent memory. Affected products include: Twisted, Debian Debian Linux, Oracle Http Server, Oracle Zfs Storage Appliance Kit, Fedoraproject Fedora. Version information: Prior to 22.2.0.
RemediationAI
A vendor patch is available. Apply the latest security update as soon as possible. Always validate buffer sizes before copy operations. Use bounded functions (strncpy, snprintf). Enable compiler protections.
