ecosystem impact- 12 pypi packages depend on celery (9 direct, 3 indirect)
Ecosystem-wide dependent count for version 5.2.2.
DescriptionNVD
This affects the package celery before 5.2.2. It by default trusts the messages and metadata stored in backends (result stores). When reading task metadata from the backend, the data is deserialized. Given that an attacker can gain access to, or somehow manipulate the metadata within a celery backend, they could trigger a stored command injection vulnerability and potentially gain further access to the system.
AnalysisAI
This affects the package celery before 5.2.2. Rated high severity (CVSS 7.5), this vulnerability is remotely exploitable. Public exploit code available and no vendor patch available.
Technical ContextAI
This vulnerability is classified as Command Injection (CWE-77), which allows attackers to inject arbitrary commands into system command execution. Affected products include: Celeryproject Celery, Fedoraproject Extra Packages For Enterprise Linux, Fedoraproject Fedora. Version information: before 5.2.2..
RemediationAI
No vendor patch is available at time of analysis. Monitor vendor advisories for updates. Use parameterized APIs, avoid shell execution, validate input with strict allowlists.
