Lifecycle Timeline
1DescriptionNVD
There are several memory leaks in the MIFF coder in /coders/miff.c due to improper image depth values, which can be triggered by a specially crafted input file. These leaks could potentially lead to an impact to application availability or cause a denial of service. It was originally reported that the issues were in AcquireMagickMemory() because that is where LeakSanitizer detected the leaks, but the patch resolves issues in the MIFF coder, which incorrectly handles data being passed to AcquireMagickMemory(). This flaw affects ImageMagick versions prior to 7.0.9-0.
AnalysisAI
There are several memory leaks in the MIFF coder in /coders/miff.c due to improper image depth values, which can be triggered by a specially crafted input file. Rated medium severity (CVSS 5.5), this vulnerability is no authentication required, low attack complexity. Public exploit code available and no vendor patch available.
Technical ContextAI
This vulnerability is classified as Memory Leak (CWE-401), which allows attackers to exhaust available memory leading to denial of service. There are several memory leaks in the MIFF coder in /coders/miff.c due to improper image depth values, which can be triggered by a specially crafted input file. These leaks could potentially lead to an impact to application availability or cause a denial of service. This flaw affects ImageMagick versions prior to 7.0.9-0. Affected products include: Imagemagick. Version information: prior to 7.0.9.
RemediationAI
No vendor patch is available at time of analysis. Monitor vendor advisories for updates. Ensure all allocated memory is properly freed. Use RAII patterns or garbage-collected languages.
