Battery Life Diagnostic Tool Software
Monthly
Local privilege escalation in Intel Battery Life Diagnostic Tool Software before version 2.9.0 stems from an untrusted search path (CWE-426), enabling a malicious binary or DLL to be loaded in place of a legitimate dependency when the tool executes. An authenticated local attacker with write access to a directory in the application's search path can achieve full system compromise (confidentiality, integrity, and availability all rated High on the vulnerable system) by waiting for a legitimate user to passively trigger the tool. Intel has released a fix in version 2.9.0 via advisory INTEL-SA-01453; no public exploit or CISA KEV listing is present at time of analysis.
