Man-in-the-middle interception of protected ICS communications affects the ASE/Kalkitech ASE2000 V2 Communication Test Set versions 2.35 through 2.37 on Windows, whose IEC 60870-5-104 TLS client (Task Mode) improperly validates server certificates. A network-positioned attacker can present a certificate containing multiple simultaneous defects that the client accepts, defeating TLS authentication and exposing/altering traffic between the test set and a downstream RTU/IED.
