7.4 HIGH

MITM over the network is AV:N; AC:H because attacker needs an interposition position plus a crafted multi-fault certificate; no auth (PR:N/UI:N); reads and tampers with traffic (C:H/I:H) without affecting availability (A:N).

DescriptionCVE.org

ASE/Kalkitech ASE2000 V2 Communication Test Set 2.35 through 2.37 on Windows contains an improper certificate validation vulnerability in the IEC 60870-5-104 TLS client (Task Mode). This allows a network-positioned attacker to bypass certificate validation via a certificate with multiple simultaneous faults, enabling a Man-in-the-Middle attack on protected communications.

AnalysisAI

Man-in-the-middle interception of protected ICS communications affects the ASE/Kalkitech ASE2000 V2 Communication Test Set versions 2.35 through 2.37 on Windows, whose IEC 60870-5-104 TLS client (Task Mode) improperly validates server certificates. A network-positioned attacker can present a certificate containing multiple simultaneous defects that the client accepts, defeating TLS authentication and exposing/altering traffic between the test set and a downstream RTU/IED. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires the attacker to hold a man-in-the-middle network position on the IEC 60870-5-104 TLS path used by ASE2000 V2 in Task Mode, and to present a certificate carrying multiple simultaneous faults that the client's flawed validation accepts. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:H/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:N, base 9.1) describes an unauthenticated, network-reachable attack with high confidentiality and integrity impact but no availability impact - consistent with a MITM that reads and tampers with traffic but does not crash the endpoint. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Consult the ASE vendor advisory (https://www.ase-systems.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/CYB_2026_86278_Advisory_v1.0.pdf) for the corrected release and upgrade beyond the 2.35-2.37 range; the input data does not specify an exact fixed version, so no patched version can be independently confirmed at time of analysis. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
