MITRE ATT&CK
2 techniques across 2 tactics: Execution, Initial Access The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires three concrete conditions from the description: (1) the HAS deployment still uses the shipped DEFAULT SCIM bearer token - the installer and config script copy this default into active configuration and do not auto-generate a random token, so default/unmodified installs are vulnerable out of the box; (2) the SCIM API endpoint is network-reachable by the attacker; and (3) SCIM provisioning is configured/enabled against a backend. For the RCE escalation specifically, the deployment must run the vulnerable scim-patch dependency and a Node.js 24/Express stack exposing usable gadget chains (child_process, EJS/Pug, or Passport). LIMITING FACTORS: operators who manually rotated the SCIM token are not exploitable; the affected version window is 2022.1-2025.2 (2026.1 removes the defect); and the full RCE impact depends on the runtime gadget environment, whereas unauthorized SCIM user/group operations apply to any unpatched default install. |
| Impact | This is a genuine high-priority issue, not a CVSS-inflated paper risk. The vendor-supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H, 9.3 Critical) is internally consistent with the description: the SCIM endpoint is network-reachable and the shipped default bearer token is copied into active config and never auto-rotated, so an attacker needs no legitimate credentials - only knowledge of a publicly-shipped default, which CVSS correctly treats as PR:N. The chain with CVE-2026-61834 (prototype pollution in the scim-patch dependency, CWE-1321) escalates full-token abuse into confirmed RCE on Node.js 24/Express deployments via child_process/EJS/Pug/Passport gadget chains, justifying VC:H/VI:H/VA:H. CONFLICTING/MISSING SIGNALS: No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no POC indicator were provided, so exploitation-likelihood signals are absent rather than low - do not read the missing EPSS as reassurance. The one tempering factor is that RCE is partially deployment-dependent (default token retained + specific Node/Express gadget environment), so the pure auth-bypass (unauthorized SCIM user/group operations) is universally applicable to unpatched default installs, while the RCE outcome depends on the runtime stack. Net: treat as critical for any HAS deployment that has not rotated the SCIM token. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker enumerates an internet- or network-reachable Helix Authentication Service SCIM endpoint and authenticates using the well-known default bearer token that the installer never replaced. They then issue a crafted SCIM PATCH request that triggers server-side prototype pollution in the scim-patch dependency, which the vendor confirmed can be driven to remote code execution via available gadget chains in a Node.js 24/Express deployment. No public exploit was identified at time of analysis, but the vendor states RCE was reproduced in testing. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 13, 2026
Unauthorized SCIM API access in Perforce Helix Authentication Service (HAS) versions 2022.1 through 2025.2 arises from a shipped default bearer token that the installer and configuration script fail to rotate, enabling remote, unauthenticated attackers who know the token to perform user and group provisioning operations. Chaining this with CVE-2026-61834 in the scim-patch dependency allows server-side prototype pollution and, under Node.js 24/Express with specific gadget chains, remote code execution. The underlying defect is removed in HAS 2026.1; no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Upgrade to Perforce Helix Authentication Service 2026.1 or later, which removes the underlying defect. If immediate upgrade is not possible, manually rotate the SCIM bearer token to a strong, random value in the active configuration (the installer and config script do not do this automatically), and restrict network access to the SCIM API endpoint to trusted provisioning clients only. Disable SCIM provisioning if it is not required. For the prototype pollution/RCE chain, update the scim-patch dependency to a patched version and ensure Node.js runtime and Express stack are current; limiting factors include that operators who rotated the token are not exploitable and that RCE requires a specific gadget environment. Consult the vendor advisory at the provided Perforce link for further guidance.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The vulnerability stems from CWE-1321 (improperly controlled modification of object prototype attributes), a prototype pollution flaw in the SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management) provisioning path. HAS version 25.2 installation templates contain a default SCIM bearer token that the installer copies into the active configuration without automatic randomization, leaving default deployments with a static credential. Attackers who obtain this token can authenticate to the SCIM API and manipulate users and groups. When combined with CVE-2026-61834 in the scim-patch dependency, a crafted SCIM PATCH request can pollute JavaScript object prototypes, corrupt application state, and disrupt health checks or SSO/SCIM requests. In Node.js 24/Express environments, available gadget chains involving child_process, EJS/Pug, or Passport can escalate this to remote code execution. The affected component is identified by CPE cpe:2.3:a:perforce:helix_authentication_service:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*.

DescriptionCVE.org
Perforce Helix Authentication Service (HAS) deployments that retain the shipped default SCIM bearer token are vulnerable to unauthorized access when the SCIM endpoint is reachable by an attacker. In version 25.2, the installation templates contain a default credential which the installer copies into the active configuration; the installer and configuration script do not automatically replace that value with a random token. An attacker who knows the default token can authenticate to the SCIM API and perform user and group operations allowed by the configured provisioning backend.
This issue can be chained with CVE-2026-61834 in affected releases of the scim-patch dependency. A crafted SCIM PATCH request can cause server-side prototype pollution, corrupt application state, and disrupt service availability, including health checks and SCIM or SSO requests. In a later test, this primitive was confirmed to enable remote code execution in a Node.js 24/Express deployment through available gadget chains involving child_process, EJS/Pug, or Passport.
This vulnerability exists in version 2022.1 - 2025.2 of HAS however the underlying defect was removed in version 2026.1 which was released July 17th 2026. The vulnerability was identified in older versions of HAS after version 2026.1 was released.

Executive ViewAI
Perforce Helix Authentication Service (HAS) versions 2022.1 through 2025.2 ships with a default SCIM bearer token that the installer and configuration scripts never rotate, leaving the user- and group-provisioning interface reachable by anyone who knows that well-known value. Because HAS is the component that vouches for identities across Perforce development environments, unauthorized provisioning there can hand an outsider standing access to source code, build systems, and internal repositories, and could potentially escalate to code execution on the authentication host itself. Leadership should treat this as an identity-integrity exposure affecting every team relying on Perforce, not as a routine maintenance item.
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: rotate the default SCIM bearer token on every affected instance, restrict or block network access to the SCIM endpoint, disable SCIM provisioning where it is not required, upgrade or remediate the scim-patch dependency, and monitor provisioning and audit logs for unauthorized user or group changes; plan migration to HAS 2026.1, which the advisory states removes the underlying defect.
