Exploitation Conditions

Requires a valid authenticated session on Langflow versions 1.5.0 up to (but not including) 1.10.3 (PR:L in the CVSS vector), and network reachability to the MCP install endpoint POST /api/v1/mcp/project/{project_id}/install. The concrete trigger is a request carrying a forged 'X-Forwarded-For: 127.0.0.1' (or any loopback address) header, which the pre-fix get_client_ip trusted as the leftmost entry, satisfying the is_local_ip local-only gate. Limiting factors: authentication is mandatory (no anonymous exploitation), no user interaction is needed, and the impact is bounded to writing/overwriting an MCP client configuration file. The fix makes the header untrusted by default, only honoring the rightmost XFF entry when the operator has explicitly set rate_limit_trust_proxy - so deployments on 1.10.3+ with that setting still relying on a properly configured trusted proxy are safe.

Impact

This is a genuine but moderate-priority issue rather than a top-tier emergency. The CVSS 3.1 vector (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:L, base 7.1 High) is internally consistent with the description: network-reachable, low complexity, but requiring low-level authentication (PR:L), with a high integrity impact (arbitrary write/overwrite of an MCP client config file on the host) and low availability impact and no confidentiality loss. The key mitigating signal is PR:L - this is NOT an unauthenticated flaw; an attacker must already hold valid Langflow credentials, which substantially narrows the realistic threat to authenticated-but-unprivileged users or attackers with stolen/low-tier accounts. No EPSS score was provided, the CVE is not in CISA KEV, and no public exploit was supplied (the GitHub links are the fix commits, PR, and advisory - not weaponized exploit code). The practical danger is elevation/abuse: because the endpoint writes an MCP client configuration (e.g., ~/.cursor/mcp.json) to the host filesystem, a poisoned config could point tooling at attacker-controlled MCP servers, creating a plausible path to downstream code execution or data redirection - so the true business impact may exceed the raw integrity-only CVSS framing. Note one nuance to verify: the description frames the endpoint as 'local-only,' implying an intended trust boundary, yet the CVSS AV:N correctly reflects that the bypass itself is performed remotely via a spoofed header.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An authenticated low-privilege Langflow user (or an attacker who has obtained any valid session) sends a POST to /api/v1/mcp/project/{project_id}/install with a forged 'X-Forwarded-For: 127.0.0.1' header; the server trusts the leftmost XFF entry, treats the request as loopback-originated, and bypasses the local-only guard, allowing the attacker to write or overwrite an MCP client configuration file on the server's filesystem. No public exploit code was identified at time of analysis, though the upstream fix commits and regression tests publicly document the exact spoofing technique and the vulnerable is_local_ip/get_client_ip logic.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 05, 2026

Authenticated remote users of Langflow can defeat the localhost-only restriction on the MCP configuration install endpoint (POST /api/v1/mcp/project/{project_id}/install) by sending a forged 'X-Forwarded-For: 127.0.0.1' header, causing the server to treat the request as local and allowing the attacker to write or overwrite an MCP client configuration file on the host filesystem. The flaw affects Langflow versions 1.5.0 up to but not including 1.10.3 and carries a CVSS v3.1 score of 7.1 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:L), reflecting a high integrity impact and low availability impact but no confidentiality loss. Authentication is mandatory, no user interaction is required, and no public exploit identified at time of analysis; no EPSS data was supplied for this CVE, so risk is driven by the moderate CVSS score and the requirement for a valid session rather than by observed exploitation.

RemediationAI

Upgrade Langflow to 1.10.3 or later, which is the vendor-released patched version; the fix is contained in commits 1f39a4b9d62c9dfa1b21fa7f85e23a180c351b72 and 94859df33acd70b2a1f816e26d68f5e89a7e5639 (PR 13915) and is published in the v1.10.3 release. If upgrading is not immediately possible, the most effective compensating controls are to remove network exposure of the Langflow backend (bind it to loopback, place it behind a network ACL or VPN, and never publish it directly to the internet), since the attack requires reaching the install endpoint; alternatively enforce an authentication and authorization review so that only fully trusted operators hold Langflow accounts, because the bypass requires a valid session. If a reverse proxy must front the application, configure it to overwrite or strip any client-supplied X-Forwarded-For header so a spoofed leftmost entry cannot reach the backend - the trade-off is that this requires correct proxy configuration and, on pre-1.10.3 releases, still does not change the underlying leftmost-entry parsing behavior, so the patch remains the only complete fix. Operators on 1.10.3+ who legitimately run behind a proxy should only enable rate_limit_trust_proxy when the proxy is fully trusted and reliably appends the client address as the final X-Forwarded-For hop, since enabling it without such a proxy degrades the locality check. Additional detail is available in the advisory at https://github.com/langflow-ai/langflow/security/advisories/GHSA-4f6c-2vvp-gw82.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The vulnerable component is Langflow's FastAPI-based backend, specifically the get_client_ip() helper in src/backend/base/langflow/api/v1/mcp_projects.py. That helper feeds an is_local_ip() gate that guards install_mcp_config(), an operation that writes MCP (Model Context Protocol) client configuration files such as ~/.cursor/mcp.json onto the host. The pre-fix implementation unconditionally read the X-Forwarded-For HTTP header and returned its leftmost, comma-separated entry, which is entirely client-supplied and therefore attacker-controlled. Because X-Forwarded-For is a hop-by-hop attribution header that only a trusted reverse proxy may append to, trusting the leftmost value allowed any caller to assert a loopback address and satisfy the local-only check. The CWE classification illustrates the dual nature of the defect: CWE-290 (Authentication Bypass by Spoofing) describes the resulting bypass of the locality control, while the upstream regression test frames the root cause as improper trust of X-Forwarded-For. The upstream fix changes get_client_ip() to use the real TCP peer address (request.client.host) by default, so a spoofed header has no effect, and only consults X-Forwarded-For when the operator has explicitly opted in via the rate_limit_trust_proxy setting, in which case it takes the rightmost (last-hop, proxy-appended and client-unforgeable) entry rather than the leftmost. A missing peer address now falls back to the non-routable 255.255.255.255, which is correctly treated as non-local.

DescriptionCVE.org

Langflow is a tool for building and deploying AI-powered agents and workflows. From 1.5.0 until 1.10.3, an IP spoofing vulnerability in the Model Context Protocol (MCP) configuration installation endpoint (POST /api/v1/mcp/project/{project_id}/install) allowed authenticated remote attackers to bypass the "local-only" access restriction. By sending a spoofed X-Forwarded-For: 127.0.0.1 header, an attacker could make the server treat the request as originating from localhost, letting them write/overwrite an MCP client configuration file on the server's filesystem. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.10.3.

Technical POC Analysis

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Langflow deployments running versions 1.5.0 through 1.10.2 contain a flaw that lets any user with a valid login session slip past a localhost-only safeguard and write arbitrary MCP client configuration files onto the underlying host. Because this grants configuration-level control over the server's filesystem without any special privileges beyond a normal account, it undermines the integrity of the Langflow environment and anything that trusts its configuration. Leadership should care because exploitation requires only an existing account - a low bar in organizations where Langflow is shared across teams - and no vendor fix is currently available.

Business Impact: High
Compensating Controls

No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: block or restrict external access to the MCP install endpoint (POST /api/v1/mcp/project/{project_id}/install) at the reverse proxy/WAF; strip or reject client-supplied X-Forwarded-For headers at the edge and ensure the application does not trust them for loopback determination; enforce strict least privilege and active review of all authenticated accounts; log and alert on MCP endpoint calls and on file integrity changes to MCP client configuration paths; segment Langflow on an isolated host with restricted write access to configuration directories.
