Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires a Joomla administrator to be authenticated with an active back-end session and to visit an attacker-controlled external page while that session is valid (UI:A). The specific affected functionality is the Event Gallery extension's back-end list buttons for eight tasks: setting the default payment method, shipping method, image type set, order status, and watermark; toggling an event in/out of the shop; selecting an event's main image and the main-image-only flag; and sorting event images - all of which fail to validate the form token. Limiting factors: impact is confined to changing these configuration flags (no read, no delete, orders unaffected), the attack needs an active privileged session plus admin interaction, and it is fixed in version 6.6.0, so patched or non-administrator-active deployments are not exploitable.

Impact

This is a genuinely medium/low-priority issue, not a high-CVSS alarm. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 5.1 (Medium), and the vector tells a consistent story: AV:N (a malicious web page reaches the victim over the network), AC:L, but UI:A - exploitation absolutely depends on a logged-in administrator visiting an attacker-controlled page. Impact is limited to VI:L (low integrity) with VC:N and VA:N: the description confirms nothing can be read or deleted and orders are unaffected, so only eight configuration flags/settings can be flipped. No EPSS score was provided, there is no CISA KEV listing, and no public POC is referenced, so exploitation status is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis.' CWE-352 (CSRF) matches the described missing form-token checks exactly, so the signals are internally consistent with no contradictions. Note PR:N reflects that the attacker needs no account of their own, but a real attack still requires an authenticated administrator session in the victim's browser - this social-engineering/session prerequisite, combined with low integrity-only impact, makes this a low real-world risk best handled in routine patching rather than emergency response.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker crafts a malicious web page containing auto-submitting requests to the Event Gallery back-end task endpoints and lures a currently logged-in Joomla administrator to visit it. Because the targeted list-button tasks do not validate a CSRF form token, the browser silently sends the admin's authenticated session cookies and the settings are changed in the administrator's name. No public exploit code is identified, but the technique is standard CSRF and trivial to weaponize.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 05, 2026

Cross-site request forgery in the Event Gallery extension for Joomla (all versions before 6.6.0) allows an attacker-controlled external page to silently flip back-end configuration flags - default payment method, shipping method, image type set, order status, watermark, putting an event in or out of the shop, selecting an event's main image, toggling the main-image-only flag, and sorting event images - in the name of an administrator. The eight affected back-end list buttons never validate the Joomla form token, so the forged requests execute with the privileges of a victim who has an active administrator session and visits the malicious page (user interaction required, per the assessed vector CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N). Impact is deliberately narrow - no data can be read or deleted and orders are unaffected - so this is a medium/low-priority issue rather than a high-CVSS alarm; no public exploit code or confirmed active exploitation was identified at time of analysis, and the flaw is fixed in version 6.6.0.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: upgrade Event Gallery for Joomla to version 6.6.0, which introduces the missing form-token validation on all eight back-end list tasks; consult the vendor's site and changelog at https://www.svenbluege.de/ for the release confirming 6.6.0. Because the attack depends on an administrator's active back-end session being hijacked by a page on another origin, effective compensating controls include: instructing administrators to log out of the Joomla back-end when not actively working and never browsing untrusted sites in the same browser profile while logged in (side effect: workflow friction, but no loss of functionality); restricting administrative access to a management VLAN, VPN or IP allow-list so an external forged request cannot reach the back-end endpoint at all (side effect: legitimate remote admins must use the tunnel); enforcing SameSite=Strict or Lax on the session cookie and modern browser cookie policies, which blocks most cross-site POST/pseudo-GET actions but can break legitimate cross-origin integrations; and adding WAF or reverse-proxy rules that reject state-changing admin requests lacking a valid Joomla token or a same-origin Referer (side effect: careful tuning required to avoid blocking legitimate admin traffic). Disabling or unpublishing the Event Gallery back-end list views until the upgrade is applied removes the attack surface, at the cost of losing the affected configuration workflows.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The vulnerability is a classic CWE-352 cross-site request forgery in a third-party Joomla extension published by svenbluege.de. Joomla's back-end uses per-request form tokens (session-bound CSRF tokens, historically validated via JSession::checkToken()/checkToken('request')) to bind state-changing actions to forms actually rendered by the application. In Event Gallery before 6.6.0, eight task handlers wired to the back-end list buttons omitted that token check, so a request crafted on an unrelated site and carried by the administrator's browser - including the Joomla session cookie - is accepted as a legitimate action. The affected handlers cover administrative housekeeping rather than data retrieval: setting the default payment method, default shipping method, image type set, order status and watermark; putting an event into the shop or taking it out; choosing an event's main image and whether an image is shown only as the main image; and sorting an event's images. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:svenbluege.de:event_gallery_for_joomla:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* covers every released version below the fixed 6.6.0 build. Because the primitive is a forged state change within an authenticated admin context, the assessed confidentiality and availability impacts are None and the integrity impact is Low; the attack succeeds only while a privileged session is live and the administrator is induced to load the attacker's page.

DescriptionCVE.org

Joomla Extension - svenbluege.de - Cross-site request forgery of list tasks of the backend in Event Gallery extension < 6.6.0 - Eight tasks which the buttons of the back-end lists call did not check the form token: setting the default payment method, shipping method, image type set, order status and watermark; putting an event into the shop or taking it out; choosing the main image of an event and whether an image is shown only as the main image; and sorting the images of an event. A prepared page on another web site could trigger them in the name of a logged in administrator and change those settings and flags. Nothing can be deleted or read this way; orders are not affected.
