MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires an authenticated low-privileged account on Devolutions Server (version 2026.3.5.0 and earlier, fixed in 2026.3.7.0) and the ability to send a crafted request to the attachment history API. The limiting factors are that valid credentials are mandatory (PR:L - this is not remotely exploitable by anonymous attackers) and impact is confined to deleting or restoring vault attachments; there is no confidentiality exposure and no code execution. No special non-default configuration is needed beyond having vault attachments present and a low-privileged principal. |
| Impact | This is a genuinely moderate, not high, priority. The CVSS 3.1 base score of 5.4 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:L) describes a network-reachable but authenticated flaw with only partial integrity and availability impact and no confidentiality exposure - consistent with a missing-authorization (CWE-862) issue rather than a code-execution or data-theft bug. All exploitation signals point away from urgency: SSVC records Exploitation=none, Automatable=no, and Technical Impact=partial, meaning CISA's framework does not see active exploitation or scalable automated abuse. There is no EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit code, so the correct exploitation status is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis.' The signals are internally consistent - a self-reported, vendor-patched authorization gap with low real impact - with no conflicts between the CVSS vector, the description (both indicate an authenticated low-privileged actor), and the SSVC verdict. The only caveat is that the CVSS impact is bounded to attachment deletion/restoration, so the practical harm is limited to loss/manipulation of vault attachment data rather than broader compromise. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An authenticated low-privileged Devolutions Server user who lacks rights over certain vault attachments sends a crafted request to the attachment history API, which fails to enforce authorization, and thereby permanently deletes or restores attachments they should not be able to touch. Because AC:L and no user interaction are required, the request is straightforward to issue once the attacker holds any valid low-privilege account. No public proof-of-concept exploit code has been identified at time of analysis. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 29, 2026
Missing authorization in the attachment history API of Devolutions Server 2026.3.5.0 and earlier lets an authenticated low-privileged user permanently delete or restore vault attachments by sending a crafted API request. The flaw requires valid credentials (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:L, base score 5.4) and is limited to integrity and availability of attachment data - there is no confidentiality exposure and no code execution. There is no public exploit identified at time of analysis, CISA SSVC rates exploitation as none and the issue as not automatable, and a vendor patch is available in Devolutions Server 2026.3.7.0.
RemediationAI
Upgrade to Devolutions Server 2026.3.7.0 or later - the vendor-released patch is available per advisory DEVO-2026-0034 (https://devolutions.net/security/advisories/DEVO-2026-0034/), and this is the only complete fix since the defect is an in-product authorization check that cannot be corrected by configuration. Until the upgrade can be scheduled, reduce exposure by auditing and trimming vault attachment history so that fewer prior revisions exist for a crafted request to act on, and by reviewing role assignments to ensure no low-privileged or service accounts have vault access they do not operationally need, since the flaw is only reachable by a principal that already holds an authenticated account with some vault permissions; note that neither measure removes the missing check. As a compensating control, restrict network reachability of the Devolutions Server web/API interface to trusted management networks or place it behind an authenticating reverse proxy with per-endpoint logging, and monitor API logs for unexpected DELETE or restore calls against attachment-history paths - the trade-off is that this limits legitimate remote access from unmanaged clients and adds operational overhead. Rotation or re-seeding of suspicious attachments from backup should be considered after upgrading, because the unauthorized delete action is described as permanent.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The vulnerability is an instance of CWE-862 (Missing Authorization) inside the attachment history API of Devolutions Server, a self-hosted privileged access management and password/vault platform. The attachment history feature tracks prior revisions of files stored in vaults so that users can view, restore, or permanently purge earlier versions; the defect is that the endpoint handling those history operations fails to verify that the caller holds the entitlement required for the requested action. Because authorization is checked at the object level but not for the history sub-resource, any principal that can reach the API with an authenticated low-privileged session can invoke delete or restore semantics on attachments associated with vault entries they should not control. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:devolutions:server:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* confirms the vendor product family is the affected component, and the CVSS vector (PR:L, no UI, scope unchanged) shows the practical barrier is a valid account rather than a network position or user interaction. No memory-safety, deserialization, or injection primitive is involved - the entire impact derives from the trust boundary being enforced one level too high in the API routing/permission layer.
