| Exploitation Conditions | Requires Modules Anywhere Pro (versions 1.5.0 through 9.0.5) installed on Joomla, where the parameter-override feature is enabled by default. The attacker must have privileges to author content containing a Modules Anywhere module tag, and the selected module must consume the replaced parameter unsafely - the core Feed module's rssurl (which the server opens and accepts file: and network URLs for) is the concrete confirmed path. Limiting factors: authenticated content-authoring access is needed (not unauthenticated), and impact depends on the target module; a hardened deployment disabling the override feature or restricting the Feed module reduces exposure. |
| Impact | The vendor-supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (8.5, AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N) rates this high, but the metric weighting is questionable and the real-world priority is moderate. The vulnerability is a CWE-918 SSRF/LFI in Regular Labs 'Modules Anywhere Pro' (1.5.0-9.0.5) where module-tag override attributes bypass author checks; the core Joomla Feed module's rssurl parameter then opens file:// (local file read) or arbitrary network URLs (SSRF). Notably the vendor set VC:N (no confidentiality) yet VI:H/SI:H/SC:H - this is inconsistent with a file-read/LFI primitive, whose dominant impact is confidentiality (disclosure of local files and internal responses); verify impact weighting with the vendor. Exploitation requires authenticated content-authoring privileges (PR:H/PR:L), so it is not a pre-auth mass-exploitation candidate. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit code are present in the input, so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis. Net: a genuine authenticated LFI/SSRF worth patching, but not an urgent internet-wide threat - priority is tempered by the authentication requirement and the paid-Pro-extension footprint. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker with content-authoring access to a Joomla site running Modules Anywhere Pro embeds a module tag that selects the core Feed module and overrides its rssurl attribute with a file:// path or an internal network URL. The server opens the supplied URL and renders the response into the page, disclosing local file contents or internal service data. No public proof-of-concept is identified in the available data. |

Server-side request forgery and local file inclusion in Regular Labs Modules Anywhere for Joomla (Pro versions 1.5.0 through 9.0.5) allow an attacker with content-authoring privileges to override module parameters and cause the server to open attacker-influenced URLs or local files. The parameter-override feature is enabled by default and applies attributes without verifying who authored the content containing the module tag; Joomla's core Feed module with its rssurl parameter is a confirmed vector. The vendor rates this 8.5 under CVSS 4.0, but the independent assessment (CVSS 3.1 AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N) indicates high technical impact with moderate real-world priority because authentication is required and exposure depends on the selected module; no public exploit was identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch was identified in the available intelligence; consult the vendor site at https://www.regularlabs.com/ for an updated release and apply it as soon as it is available. Until then, disable the Modules Anywhere Pro parameter-override feature if the extension exposes a setting to do so; this removes the vulnerable behavior but disables the ability to override module parameters from content tags. Restrict content-authoring privileges to trusted users, because exploitation requires the ability to author content containing a Modules Anywhere tag (authenticated, PR:L). Disable or remove the Joomla core Feed module if it is not needed, or restrict its rssurl parameter from accepting file: URLs and arbitrary network destinations; this closes the confirmed LFI/SSRF path at the cost of losing feed functionality. If the Feed module must remain, use an application firewall or input filter to reject file: schemes and unexpected internal network URLs, but treat this as a compensating control rather than a fix. Review server logs for abnormal module tag parameters, file: URL access, and outbound requests from the Joomla host.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Modules Anywhere is a Joomla extension that lets editors place module output inside articles and other content using tags. The Pro version adds an attribute-override capability that is enabled by default in affected releases (1.5.0 through 9.0.5): attributes supplied on a Modules Anywhere tag can replace arbitrary parameters of the selected module. Because the override is applied without checking the author of the content containing the tag, a low-privileged content author can influence how a privileged server-side component runs. The root cause is CWE-918 (server-side request forgery) with a local file inclusion consequence in concrete paths. Joomla's core Feed module, which opens its rssurl parameter server-side, is a confirmed target: it accepts both file: URLs (LFI) and network URLs (SSRF), allowing file disclosure or outbound requests to internal services. The vulnerability is not in Joomla core per se but in the extension's override handling; the Feed module merely provides a dangerous consumer of the replaced parameter.

DescriptionCVE.org
Joomla Extension - regularlabs.com - LFI / SSRF in Modules Anywhere 1.5.0 - 9.0.5 for Joomla - Modules Anywhere Pro lets additional attributes on a module tag replace arbitrary parameters of the selected module. This feature is enabled by default in affected versions. The overrides are applied without checking who authored the content containing the tag. The security effect depends on how the selected module consumes the replaced parameter. Joomla's core Feed module provides a concrete affected path: its rssurl parameter is opened by the server and accepts local file: URLs as well as network URLs.
Executive ViewAI
A high-severity flaw in Regular Labs Modules Anywhere for Joomla Pro versions 1.5.0 through 9.0.5 allows authenticated content authors to make the server request attacker-influenced URLs or local files, with no vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis and no public exploit identified at time of analysis. Because the parameter-override feature is enabled by default and requires only content-authoring privileges, any organization running affected Joomla sites with multiple authors may face unauthorized data exposure or server-side misuse. Leadership should treat this as a priority for mitigation and monitor for a vendor fix, particularly where contributor accounts are broadly assigned.
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations include disabling the module parameter-override feature, restricting content-authoring privileges, removing Regular Labs Modules Anywhere if not required, blocking server-side requests to untrusted destinations, restricting local file read access, and monitoring logs for anomalous SSRF or local file inclusion activity.
