MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Initial Access The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires an authenticated victim of the CloudClassroom-PHP-Project application to visit an attacker-controlled web page while their session is active (UI:P). The application must lack anti-CSRF token protection on state-changing endpoints (the root cause, CWE-352). No attacker authentication is needed (PR:N), but the attack cannot succeed without a logged-in victim being socially engineered into loading the malicious content, which meaningfully limits real-world exploitability. There is no vendor patch available, as the vendor did not respond to disclosure and the product is unversioned. |
| Impact | This is a high-CVSS-appearance-but-low-real-risk issue. The vendor CVSS 4.0 score of 5.3 (medium) with SSVC exploitation status Proof-of-Concept (E:P) reflects a CSRF flaw with only limited integrity impact (VI:L) and no confidentiality or availability impact. Attack vector is network (AV:N) with low complexity (AC:L) and no privileges required (PR:N), but exploitation requires passive user interaction (UI:P) - a logged-in victim must trigger an attacker-controlled page while authenticated. No EPSS score and no CISA KEV listing are provided, and while a public POC exists (a GitHub advisory writeup), POC availability is NOT the same as active exploitation. Real-world risk is very low: the affected product is an obscure hobby/student PHP project on GitHub with no versioning and no enterprise deployment, and the vendor did not respond to disclosure so no patch exists. This is a typical VulDB disclosure of a minor flaw in an obscure project - the medium CVSS overstates practical risk given the tiny deployment footprint and the need for an authenticated victim to be socially engineered. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker crafts a malicious web page containing a forged request (e.g., an auto-submitting form) targeting a state-changing function of the CloudClassroom-PHP-Project application. When an authenticated user is lured into visiting the page, their browser silently submits the request using their session, causing an unintended state change. A public POC writeup exists (GitHub vinniboy021-blip/Advisory csrf.md), lowering the effort to reproduce. |

Cross-site request forgery in the CloudClassroom-PHP-Project PHP web application (repository state up to commit 5dadec098bfbbf3300d60c3494db3fb95b66e7be) allows a remote attacker to cause a logged-in victim's browser to submit unintended, state-changing requests against the application without the victim's knowledge. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P) and our independent CVSS 3.1 assessment (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N) agree that no attacker-side authentication is required but that a currently authenticated victim must be socially engineered into loading attacker-controlled content, which caps the realistic impact at low integrity modification rather than code execution or data disclosure. Publicly available exploit code exists (a public advisory with a CSRF proof-of-concept), but there is no evidence of confirmed active exploitation (not in CISA KEV), and the vendor did not respond to disclosure, so no official fix is available.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis: the maintainer was contacted early but did not respond, and the project has no versioning scheme, so there is no upgrade path to a fixed release. Until upstream code is hardened, apply compensating controls at the deployment layer: enforce anti-CSRF tokens on every state-changing endpoint (per-session, unpredictable, validated on POST) and set session cookies with SameSite=Strict or SameSite=Lax plus the Secure and HttpOnly attributes, accepting that Strict may break legitimate cross-site flows such as external SSO or embedded iframes; additionally require an Origin/Referer header check or a custom header (e.g. X-Requested-With) on sensitive actions, understanding that Origin/Referer checks can produce false negatives for users behind privacy proxies or referrer-stripping browser extensions. If the application cannot be modified, restrict it to a trusted network segment or behind a reverse proxy that injects and validates CSRF tokens, and decommission or replace the product if it is internet-facing, since simply rate-limiting requests will not stop a CSRF payload delivered once per victim session. The public proof-of-concept at https://github.com/vinniboy021-blip/Advisory/blob/main/csrf.md can be used to verify that mitigations actually block the forged request before considering the deployment safe.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The issue is a textbook CWE-352 cross-site request forgery in a PHP application. CloudClassroom-PHP-Project is an unversioned, hobby/educational PHP codebase (CPE cpe:2.3:a:mathurvishal:cloudclassroom-php-project:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* with a wildcard version because the project carries no release tags), meaning the vulnerable code path is identified only by Git commit rather than a version number. The root cause is the absence of anti-CSRF protections on state-changing endpoints: the application relies solely on a session cookie for authorization and does not bind a per-session or per-request token to those requests, nor does it enforce origin validation or SameSite cookie restrictions. As a result, a browser holding an active session will automatically attach the session cookie to a forged request crafted by a third-party page (for example, a hidden auto-submitting form or an image/GET request to a sensitive endpoint), and the application will execute the action as if the user had intended it. Because the CVSS 3.1 scope is unchanged (S:U) with only integrity impact (I:L) and no confidentiality or availability impact, the practical consequence is unauthorized modification of the victim's profile, class, or record data rather than a broader compromise of the server or the session itself.
