Network SSRF requiring the host to ingest/invoke an attacker-influenced tool (UI:R) but no client auth (PR:N); reaching internal services crosses a trust boundary (S:C) with high read impact (C:H) and minor integrity effect.

python-utcp versions before 1.1.4 contain a server-side request forgery vulnerability in HttpCommunicationProtocol.call_tool that validates the initial tool URL but follows HTTP redirects without re-validating the target. Attackers controlling a tool endpoint can return a 302 redirect to internal services, allowing the UTCP client to reach cloud metadata endpoints or internal HTTP services and return their response bodies to the caller.

AnalysisAI
python-utcp versions before 1.1.4 allow server-side request forgery through the utcp-http plugin's HttpCommunicationProtocol.call_tool, which validates the initial tool URL but follows HTTP redirects with no per-hop re-validation, so an attacker-controlled tool endpoint can return a 3xx Location that drives the UTCP client into internal HTTP services or the cloud metadata endpoint (169.254.169.254) and returns the response body to the tool caller. The vulnerable path is the core UTCP pattern of registering a tool or manual/OpenAPI spec from a runtime-supplied URL and then invoking it; the initial URL only needs to pass ensure_secure_url (any https:// or a benign attacker-owned host), with the attacker supplying the redirect. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Requires python-utcp's utcp-http plugin where HttpCommunicationProtocol.call_tool is used and a tool/manual endpoint URL is attacker-influenced - the core UTCP pattern of discovering a manual or OpenAPI spec from a runtime-supplied URL, or an existing legitimate endpoint that is attacker-controlled/compromised. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuine, patch-worthy SSRF (CWE-918) but the practical priority is moderate, not critical, once the vendor's own 4.0 vector is decomposed. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade python-utcp / the utcp-http plugin to 1.1.4 or later, which is the vendor-released fix for this issue, and confirm the redirect-handling change is present (upstream fix commit fc3268e2a62e1181f91a63faf0a9bcee7639db29); see the GHSA advisory at https://github.com/universal-tool-calling-protocol/python-utcp/security/advisories/GHSA-9qhg-99ww-9mqc for details. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory all python-utcp deployments and identify any version below 1.1.4; block outbound access from UTCP clients to 169.254.169.254 and internal RFC1918 ranges, and disable or restrict registration/invocation of runtime-supplied tool and OpenAPI specs until patched. …
