| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires that the AetherBrowser API server (scripts/aetherbrowser/api_server.py) is running on an affected version (4.0.2 to prior 4.2.1) with its default bind of 0.0.0.0:8100 and CORS allow_origins=["*"], making the POST /api/ops/check-email endpoint reachable from any network host or browser origin with no authentication. Meaningful data disclosure additionally requires that ProtonMail or Gmail IMAP credentials have actually been configured for email_reader.py - against an install with no email account configured, the endpoint executes but returns no email content, which is the primary factor limiting real-world impact. |
| Impact | The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N = 7.5 High) is internally consistent with the description: the AetherBrowser API server binds to 0.0.0.0:8100 with CORS allow_origins=["*"] and the POST /api/ops/check-email endpoint has no authentication (CWE-306), so a remote, unauthenticated attacker on the network - or any malicious web page via the wildcard CORS - can reach it directly. Impact is confidentiality-only (C:H, I:N/A:N), matching disclosure of private email metadata/body snippets with no integrity or availability effect. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit code were provided, so exploitation status is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis' - do not conflate the trivial exploitability with confirmed exploitation. The most important limiting factor absent from the raw score: the endpoint only yields data if ProtonMail/Gmail accounts are actually configured in email_reader.py; against an unconfigured install it returns nothing. Net: technically trivial to exploit but the real-world priority is tempered heavily by the obscurity of the product and the configuration dependency, so this is a genuinely-easy-but-narrow-footprint issue rather than a mass-exploitation threat. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker who can reach the host on TCP 8100 (or who lures a victim's browser to a malicious page that leverages the wildcard CORS) sends an unauthenticated POST to /api/ops/check-email. The server spawns email_reader.py, connects over IMAP to the operator's configured ProtonMail/Gmail account, and returns sender, subject, and body-snippet data in the JSON response, disclosing the operator's private correspondence. No public proof-of-concept was identified, but exploitation requires only a single crafted HTTP request against a default deployment. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 25, 2026
The AetherBrowser API server shipped with SCBE-AETHERMOORE versions 4.0.2 through 4.2.0 exposes the POST /api/ops/check-email endpoint with no authentication check whatsoever, letting any remote, unauthenticated attacker invoke the email_reader.py subprocess, which logs into configured ProtonMail or Gmail accounts over IMAP and returns email metadata (sender, subject, and body snippets) in the JSON response. The server listens on 0.0.0.0:8100 by default and sets CORS allow_origins=["*"], so the endpoint is reachable from any network host and callable from any browser origin, though meaningful mailbox disclosure requires that IMAP credentials have actually been configured for the reader. Version 4.2.1 resolves the missing authentication (CWE-306); no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade to SCBE-AETHERMOORE 4.2.1, which adds the missing authentication to the POST /api/ops/check-email endpoint; the fix is described in advisory GHSA-q986-4x7x-gx39 (https://github.com/issdandavis/SCBE-AETHERMOORE/security/advisories/GHSA-q986-4x7x-gx39) and shipped via commits ca833795e01eab060e92572e5f667c0c136b8c1e and de7779b722c501dbcf4eae95dd51bb3984506fb1. If upgrading immediately is not possible, apply compensating controls in this order of effectiveness: (1) stop or disable the AetherBrowser API server until it can be patched - this fully removes exposure but disables the browser's backend features; (2) rebind the service from 0.0.0.0:8100 to 127.0.0.1 so only local processes can reach it, which neutralizes remote network attackers but leaves browser-origin (CORS) abuse possible unless combined with step 3; (3) replace the wildcard CORS setting allow_origins=["*"] with an explicit allowlist of trusted origins, noting this may break legitimate embedding clients until they are enumerated; (4) block TCP port 8100 at the host firewall or network boundary to prevent external reachability, with the trade-off that any legitimate remote clients of the API stop working; and (5) remove any ProtonMail or Gmail IMAP credentials configured for email_reader.py, which limits the blast radius to a no-op subprocess at the cost of disabling the email-check feature. Rotating any IMAP credentials that were reachable through an exposed instance is also advisable. Note that the upstream fix references are commits rather than a standalone tagged release artifact, so organizations should confirm they are running the 4.2.1 or later build before considering the issue closed.

Technical ContextAI · show details
SCBE-AETHERMOORE is a geometric AI governance and evaluation framework whose AetherBrowser component consists of a Python API server (scripts/aetherbrowser/api_server.py) fronting a Progressive Web App client. The vulnerability is a classic CWE-306 "Missing Authentication for Critical Function": the POST /api/ops/check-email route is registered without any authentication or authorization middleware, so request handling proceeds straight to spawning the email_reader.py subprocess. That subprocess opens IMAP sessions against configured ProtonMail or Gmail accounts and streams back message metadata as JSON. Two configuration defaults compound the exposure: the HTTP listener binds to 0.0.0.0:8100 (all interfaces) rather than loopback, and Flask-CORS is configured with allow_origins=["*"], which means a malicious or compromised web page in a victim's browser can issue cross-origin requests to the local server - turning a network-reachable service into a drive-by reachable one. The CVSS 3.1 vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N (7.5 High) is internally consistent with these facts: no privileges or user interaction are needed, there is no integrity or availability impact, and impact is confined to confidentiality. The practical ceiling on that confidentiality impact is that mailboxes must actually be linked - on installations with no ProtonMail or Gmail account configured, the endpoint still executes the subprocess but discloses no email content.

Lifecycle Timeline
2DescriptionCVE.org
SCBE-AETHERMOORE is a geometric AI governance and evaluation framework. Starting in version 4.0.2 and prior to version 4.2.1, the AetherBrowser API server (scripts/aetherbrowser/api_server.py) exposes the POST /api/ops/check-email endpoint without any authentication. Any remote attacker can call this endpoint and trigger execution of the email_reader.py subprocess, which connects to configured ProtonMail or Gmail accounts via IMAP and returns email metadata (sender, subject, body snippet) in the JSON response. The server binds to 0.0.0.0:8100 by default with CORS set to allow_origins=["*"], making it reachable from any network or browser origin. Version 4.2.1 patches the issue.

Executive ViewAI
The AetherBrowser API server shipped with SCBE-AETHERMOORE versions 4.0.2 through 4.2.0 leaves an email-reading function reachable from any host that can connect to port 8100, with no authentication check protecting it. Where IMAP credentials have been configured, this can expose corporate mailbox metadata - senders, subjects and message snippets - creating privacy, confidentiality and regulatory exposure for the organization and anyone whose mail is read. No public exploit has been identified at time of analysis and no vendor patch is currently tracked, so the near-term response is network containment and credential hygiene rather than incident response.
No vendor-released patch is currently tracked, so interim mitigations are required: restrict network access to TCP 8100 with firewalls, security groups and host-based controls; bind the AetherBrowser API server to 127.0.0.1 rather than 0.0.0.0; disable or remove the POST /api/ops/check-email endpoint and the email_reader.py subprocess invocation where not strictly needed; remove the allow_origins=["*"] CORS configuration; front the service with a reverse proxy or WAF that blocks POST requests to /api/ops/check-email; rotate and scope ProtonMail/Gmail IMAP credentials used by the reader; and enable logging and alerting for requests to the endpoint and for direct external connections to port 8100.
