DescriptionCVE.org

A path traversal vulnerability was found in pulpcore. The content upload API accepts a 'file_url' parameter that allows users with file repository privileges to specify a local file URL for Pulp to download and store. A URL scheme validation check uses a string prefix comparison that only rejects URLs beginning with 'file://', but Python's URL parser recognizes the 'file:' scheme without double slashes, creating a mismatch between what is validated and what is dispatched to the file downloader. An authenticated user with low-privilege repository permissions can supply a specially crafted URL using relative path traversal sequences to read any file accessible to the Pulp server process. In deployments that include Pulp Container, successful exploitation allows an attacker to read the container registry token signing private key and forge bearer tokens, granting unauthorized access to all private container repositories in the affected registry.

AnalysisAI

Path traversal in the pulpcore content upload API allows an authenticated user holding only low-privilege file-repository permissions to read arbitrary files accessible to the Pulp server process by submitting a crafted 'file:' URL through the 'file_url' parameter, which is dispatched to the file downloader despite an intended scheme check. Baseline impact is confidentiality loss on the Pulp host; in deployments that include Pulp Container the same flaw escalates to theft of the container registry token signing private key, enabling forged bearer tokens and unauthorized access to every private container repository in the registry. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Requires an authenticated account with low-privilege file-repository permissions on the Pulp instance and network access to the content upload API accepting the 'file_url' parameter. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment This is a genuine high-priority issue backed by a coherent signal set. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis, and no fix version was supplied in the available intelligence; track the Red Hat advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-90959 and Bugzilla https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2533037 for the patched pulpcore build and for updated Satellite 6, Ansible Automation Platform 2, and Red Hat Update Infrastructure 4/5 errata. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory all pulpcore deployments and the downstream products Red Hat Satellite 6, Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform 2, and Red Hat Update Infrastructure 4/5; identify any using Pulp Container; restrict access to the content upload API and the file_url parameter to trusted administrators only; review logs for crafted file: URL submissions; and consider temporarily disabling or blocking file_url functionality until mitigations are available. …
