Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires the Mang Board WP plugin (version 2.4.1 or earlier) to be installed and active on a WordPress site, and requires a victim to click an attacker-crafted URL (UI:R) carrying the reflected XSS payload - it cannot be triggered server-side or automatically. No authentication is required of the attacker (PR:N). The primary limiting factor is the mandatory victim interaction, which restricts this to targeted/social-engineering delivery rather than automated mass exploitation; impact is further limited to whatever the victim's browser session can perform.

Impact

This is a genuine but low-priority issue. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L = 7.1) describes an unauthenticated, network-reachable reflected XSS whose severity is inflated by S:C (scope change, standard for XSS crossing into the browser's trust context) and by assigning Low to all three impact metrics. The real gating factor is UI:R: exploitation requires a victim to click an attacker-crafted link, so it is not automatable mass-exploitation. Patchstack (the reporter) is a reputable WordPress-vulnerability source, which lends confidence to the classification, but there is NO EPSS score, NO CISA KEV listing, and NO public POC provided in the input - so all exploitation-probability signals are absent rather than high. I assess the A:L (availability) impact as generous for a reflected XSS; A:N is more defensible, which would lower the base score to roughly 6.1. No SSVC decision data was supplied. Net: a real, valid vulnerability worth patching in a maintenance window, but not an emergency and not evidence of active exploitation.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker crafts a URL to a vulnerable Mang Board WP page (<=2.4.1) with a malicious script payload in a reflected parameter and delivers it via phishing, forum post, or malicious link. When a logged-in site user or administrator clicks the link, the injected JavaScript executes in their browser session, enabling session-token theft, actions on their behalf, or content defacement. No public exploit code is identified at time of analysis, and success depends on the victim clicking the crafted link.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 23, 2026

Reflected cross-site scripting in Mang Board WP, a WordPress plugin, affects version 2.4.1 and earlier and allows an unauthenticated attacker to get arbitrary script executed in a victim's browser session by persuading that victim to open a crafted URL. Exploitation is not server-side or automatic: it requires the plugin to be installed and active on a WordPress site and requires the victim to click the malicious link (UI:R, PR:N per the assessed vector), which limits this to targeted or social-engineering delivery rather than mass exploitation. No public exploit code and no confirmed active exploitation were identified at time of analysis, and our independent assessment rates this a genuine but low-priority issue with low confidentiality and integrity impact and no availability impact.

RemediationAI

No vendor-released patch version is identified in the available data, so the confirmed fixed release cannot be cited; monitor the Patchstack advisory (https://patchstack.com/database/wordpress/plugin/mangboard/vulnerability/wordpress-mang-board-wp-plugin-2-4-1-cross-site-scripting-xss-vulnerability?_s_id=cve) and the plugin's WordPress.org update channel for a patched version above 2.4.1, and apply it as soon as it is published. Until then, the most effective compensating control is to deactivate and remove the Mang Board WP plugin entirely where its board functionality is not required - the trade-off is loss of that functionality, but it fully removes the attack surface. If the plugin must remain active, deploy a WAF or reverse-proxy rule that filters script-bearing payloads and reflected-markup patterns on requests handled by the plugin (trade-off: false positives against legitimate board content and ongoing rule maintenance), and enforce a restrictive Content-Security-Policy that blocks inline and third-party script execution (trade-off: CSP can break themes and other plugins until tuned). Because exploitation requires victim interaction, user awareness around unsolicited links targeting board pages provides marginal additional risk reduction, and restricting who can post or interact with plugin endpoints limits generation of the crafted links in the first place.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The root cause is CWE-79, improper neutralization of user-supplied input during web page generation, manifesting here as reflected cross-site scripting in a WordPress plugin. The affected component is identified by CPE cpe:2.3:a:kitae_park:mang_board_wp:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* (plugin slug 'mangboard'), distributed through the WordPress plugin ecosystem and reported by Patchstack under ENISA EUVD-2026-85475. The assessed CVSS:3.1 vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N indicates network-reachable, low-complexity exploitation with no attacker authentication, but with a mandatory user-interaction prerequisite and a scope change (S:C) - meaning script executed in the victim's session can act beyond the vulnerable component's own security context, which is the classic XSS escalation pattern. Confidentiality and integrity impacts are both Low, with no availability impact; the practical ceiling on abuse is whatever the victim's authenticated WordPress session or browser can do (session/cookie abuse, content injection, or actions on behalf of a logged-in user), not server compromise. Note that the generic 7.1 base score supplied with the record corresponds to a variant including a Low availability impact; the authoritative assessed vector drops A to N.

Unauthenticated Cross Site Scripting (XSS) in Mang Board WP <= 2.4.1 versions.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Mang Board WP plugin version 2.4.1 and earlier contains a reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability that allows an unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary script in a victim's browser upon clicking a crafted link. Successful exploitation could lead to session hijacking or theft of sensitive data from site users, potentially impacting organizational reputation and customer trust. Leadership should ensure the plugin is either updated or removed, as its presence on public-facing WordPress sites poses a targeted risk requiring user interaction.

Business Impact: Medium
Compensating Controls

No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: disable or remove the Mang Board WP plugin if not essential; deploy WAF rules to block reflected XSS attempts; enforce a strict Content Security Policy (CSP); and conduct user awareness training on social engineering and suspicious links.
