Network-reachable with no auth (PR:N), but reliably exploiting the authority-parsing discrepancy raises AC:H; SSRF crosses into the protected network so S:C, primarily disclosing internal responses (C:H, I:L).

MCP Atlassian is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for Atlassian products (Confluence and Jira). Prior to 0.22.0, validate_url_for_ssrf has a backslash authority confusion because it interprets the authority differently from the Requests connection layer in the header-based Jira and Confluence URL authentication flow. A crafted URL can validate as an external hostname while the HTTP client connects to an internal host, permitting server-side requests to protected network resources. This issue is fixed in version 0.22.0.
AnalysisAI
Server-side request forgery in MCP Atlassian (the Model Context Protocol server for Confluence and Jira) prior to 0.22.0 allows remote, unauthenticated attackers to make the server issue HTTP requests to internal or otherwise protected network resources. The flaw lives in validate_url_for_ssrf, which parses a URL's authority differently from the Requests connection layer when the server runs the header-based Jira/Confluence URL authentication flow, so a crafted backslash-containing URL can pass validation as an external hostname while the HTTP client actually connects to an internal host. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Requires the MCP Atlassian server to be deployed using the header-based Jira/Confluence URL authentication flow, where the connecting client (rather than a fixed operator config) supplies the Atlassian base URL - this is the code path validate_url_for_ssrf guards. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuine SSRF (CWE-918) in the MCP Atlassian server, credible but with a moderated real-world priority. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Vendor-released patch: 0.22.0. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory every deployment of MCP Atlassian and determine whether the header-based Jira/Confluence URL authentication flow is enabled with client-supplied base URLs; where it is, disable client-supplied base URL acceptance or place the server on a segmented network segment with strict egress filtering limited to required Atlassian cloud endpoints, and review recent server logs for URL inputs containing backslashes or mixed-encoding authority components. …
