| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated SigNoz account with Viewer role or higher (PR:L) and network access to the SigNoz API on an affected version (0.87.0 up to but not including 0.142.0). The specific trigger is the v5 query_range API endpoint accepting a user-supplied telemetry field-key name that is not escaped before being embedded in generated ClickHouse SQL; the attacker embeds backticks and quotes to break out of identifier and string-literal contexts. No user interaction and no non-default configuration are needed - the flaw is present in the standard query builder path. The primary limiting factor is that valid low-privilege credentials are required, so exploitation is confined to authorized users, compromised accounts, or multi-tenant insiders rather than fully unauthenticated remote attackers. |
| Impact | This is a genuine priority for organizations running SigNoz. The vendor CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:L/VA:N/SC:H) describes network-reachable, low-complexity SQL injection requiring only low privileges (Viewer role), and the description confirms a concrete, ungated injection path in the v5 query_range API. The 8.4 score is well-supported: an authenticated user of the lowest role can reach ClickHouse and read system tables. Signal comparison is uneven, however - no EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no confirmed weaponized public exploit were supplied, so there is currently no evidence of active exploitation. Offsetting that, the fix commits and a detailed VulnCheck advisory are public and the injection technique (backtick/quote breakout of identifiers) is well-understood and reproducible, which historically shortens time-to-exploit. Key limiter: exploitation requires valid application credentials (PR:L), so this is not an internet-wide unauthenticated mass-exploitation candidate but rather an insider/authenticated-tenant and post-credential-compromise risk. Missing data (EPSS/KEV/POC) is an absence-of-evidence, not evidence the flaw is low risk. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker holding any SigNoz account with Viewer role or higher submits a v5 query_range request in which a telemetry field-key name contains backticks and quotes. Because the field key is concatenated into generated ClickHouse SQL without escaping, the payload breaks out of the identifier/string context and appends attacker-controlled SQL that reads ClickHouse system tables and exfiltrates their contents. No public weaponized exploit is identified at time of analysis, but the fix diff and VulnCheck advisory document the mechanism in detail. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 17, 2026
SQL injection in the SigNoz v5 query_range API (versions 0.87.0 through 0.141.x) lets authenticated users with the Viewer role or higher inject backticks and quotes into user-supplied telemetry field-key names, breaking out of ClickHouse identifier and string-literal contexts to execute arbitrary SQL. Successful exploitation allows cross-scope read access to ClickHouse system tables and exfiltration of telemetry data, with limited integrity impact; an attacker needs only valid low-privilege credentials and network access to the SigNoz API, with no user interaction or non-default configuration required. The issue is patched in SigNoz 0.142.0 per the vendor advisory (GHSA-q3h7-gpc9-2rxc), and no public exploit code was identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade SigNoz to 0.142.0 or later, which adds the pkg/clickhousesql quoting helpers and the ClickHouse statement validator described in the advisory (https://github.com/SigNoz/signoz/security/advisories/GHSA-q3h7-gpc9-2rxc) and the release notes (https://github.com/SigNoz/signoz/releases/tag/v0.142.0); the upstream fix commits are 8e00c0405697659bd4994a5de446cf3028c0f76d and 9c886be12015c43a1465af3532b3c3afbec6bebc. Where upgrading is not immediately possible, compensating controls include restricting issuance of even the Viewer role to trusted identities and tightening role assignment review, since the flaw requires only authenticated low-privilege access - the trade-off is reduced self-service access to dashboards for legitimate users; and constraining the ClickHouse credentials SigNoz uses to a read-only user with access only to the intended telemetry databases and no rights on system or information_schema, which limits data exfiltration depth but may break some metadata-driven UI features. Network-level restriction of the SigNoz query API (v5 query_range) to trusted networks or an authenticating reverse proxy reduces the exposed attack surface but does not protect against insider or compromised-account abuse. Because no public exploit code was identified at time of analysis, monitoring query logs for field-key names containing backticks, quotes or SQL keywords remains a useful detective control rather than a substitute for patching.

Technical ContextAI · show details
SigNoz is an open-source observability platform that stores and queries telemetry in ClickHouse. Its query builder renders attribute names, label names, body keys, aliases and dashboard variable values into ClickHouse SQL text via go-sqlbuilder and executes it with clickhouse-go. Because those field-key names originate from user or telemetry input and were not quoted before being concatenated into generated SQL, the v5 query_range endpoint is vulnerable to CWE-89 improper neutralization of special elements in an SQL command. An attacker with Viewer role or higher supplies a field-key name containing a backtick or a quote to escape the identifier or string-literal delimiters, converting the intended SELECT into attacker-controlled SQL. The assessed impact is cross-scope (S:C) with high confidentiality loss (C:H) and low integrity loss (I:L) and no availability impact (A:N), consistent with a read-oriented injection targeting ClickHouse system tables rather than data destruction. The upstream fix (commits 8e00c0405697659bd4994a5de446cf3028c0f76d and 9c886be12015c43a1465af3532b3c3afbec6bebc) introduces a dedicated pkg/clickhousesql package with Identifier(), StringLiteral(), Literal() and LikePattern() helpers, mandates sqlbuilder.Escape for text entering compiled builders, routes filter-expression values through querybuilder.FilterStringLiteral, and adds ClickHouse statement validation via ErrIfStatementIsNotValid that rejects anything other than a single SELECT and blocks reads of system and information_schema databases.

Lifecycle Timeline
2DescriptionCVE.org
SigNoz versions 0.87.0 before 0.142.0 fail to escape user-supplied telemetry field-key names in the v5 query_range API, allowing authenticated users to inject SQL. Attackers with Viewer role or higher can embed backticks and quotes in field names to break out of identifiers and string literals, executing arbitrary ClickHouse SQL to read system tables and exfiltrate data.

Executive ViewAI
SigNoz versions 0.87.0 through 0.141.x are affected by a high-severity SQL injection in the query_range API that can let an account with Viewer role or higher read telemetry data and ClickHouse system tables beyond its intended scope. No public exploit identified at time of analysis, but the CVSS 8.4 rating and cross-scope data exposure risk make this material for teams relying on SigNoz for observability. Leadership should prioritize identifying affected deployments and moving to the vendor-released patch 0.142.0 while reviewing which users hold SigNoz access.
