Exploitation Conditions

Requires an authenticated account with at least the Editor role in a Grafana org (PR:L) - not exploitable anonymously. The attacker must configure a Geomap panel using the MapLibre base layer and point it at a malicious, externally-hosted style configuration that carries attacker-controlled JavaScript. Exploitation completes only when a different, typically higher-privileged user (e.g., Org Admin) renders that panel (UI:R), at which point the stored script runs in their session and enables escalation to Org Admin. Limiting factors: needs Editor privileges, the ability to host/reach a malicious style config, victim interaction viewing the panel, and an affected version (Grafana OSS/Enterprise 12.3.0 through the listed 13.x ranges); patched releases remove the vector.

Impact

This is a genuine but privilege-gated stored XSS. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N, 7.3 High) is internally consistent with the description: network-reachable, low complexity, but requiring an authenticated Editor-role account (PR:L) and victim interaction (UI:R) when a higher-privileged user renders the malicious Geomap panel. No EPSS score, SSVC decision data, KEV listing, or public POC was provided, so exploitation status is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis' - this is not confirmed active exploitation. The real-world risk is moderate rather than critical: the C:H/I:H rating reflects session hijack and escalation to Org Admin, which is serious, but exploitation depends on an insider or compromised Editor account plus a victim admin viewing the crafted panel, which narrows the practical attack surface versus an unauthenticated RCE. Because a patch is available (per the Grafana advisory) and Grafana is extremely widely deployed, this warrants prompt patching in multi-tenant/multi-user Grafana instances where Editors are less trusted than Admins, but it is not an internet-wide drive-by threat.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

A user holding only the Editor role in a Grafana org creates or edits a Geomap panel, setting its MapLibre base layer to a malicious externally-hosted style configuration containing attacker JavaScript. When an Org Admin (or other higher-privileged user) opens the dashboard, the script executes in their authenticated session, allowing the attacker to hijack that session and escalate to Org Admin. No public exploit code is identified at the time of analysis; exploitation requires the victim to view the panel (UI:R).

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 17, 2026

Stored cross-site scripting in Grafana's Geomap panel allows an authenticated user holding at least the Editor role to embed a malicious MapLibre base-layer style configuration whose attacker-controlled JavaScript executes in the browser session of any other user who views the panel, including an Org Admin, enabling privilege escalation to Org Admin. Exploitation is privilege-gated and interaction-dependent: the attacker needs an Editor account and the ability to host or point the panel at an external style config, and a different user must render the panel. Both Grafana OSS and Grafana Enterprise are affected across the 12.3.0, 12.4.x (through 12.4.10), 13.0.x (through 13.0.8), 13.1.x (through 13.1.5) and 13.2.x (through 13.2.1) release lines, per ENISA EUVD-2026-82430; no public exploit code was identified at time of analysis.

RemediationAI

Apply the patched Grafana release for your branch as documented in the vendor advisory at https://grafana.com/security/security-advisories/cve-2026-76154 (patch available per vendor advisory; the advisory is the source of truth for the exact fixed versions for the 12.3.x, 12.4.x, 13.0.x, 13.1.x and 13.2.x lines) rather than relying on the version boundaries alone, since 12.3.0 and the 12.4.x/13.x ranges up to 12.4.10, 13.0.8, 13.1.5 and 13.2.1 are all listed as vulnerable. If immediate upgrade is not possible, reduce the attack path by restricting who can be granted the Editor role, since the flaw requires PR:L (an authenticated Editor) to plant the payload; audit existing Geomap panels for externally hosted MapLibre style URLs and remove or allowlist them (trade-off: arbitrary third-party basemaps stop rendering); and, where feasible, block Grafana server and browser egress to untrusted external hosts so a malicious style document cannot be fetched (trade-off: legitimate external tile/style providers also break). Because exploitation depends on a higher-privileged user rendering the panel (UI:R), limiting dashboard/panel sharing to trusted accounts and reviewing dashboards created by Editors is an effective interim control. Note that Content-Security-Policy hardening can mitigate script execution but may break legitimate panel and plugin functionality, so it should be trialed before broad rollout; none of these workarounds replace upgrading to a fixed release.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The weakness is CWE-79 (Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation, i.e. cross-site scripting) in the Geomap visualization panel, which can render a MapLibre GL base layer driven by a user-supplied style configuration. Grafana does not adequately sanitize or restrict the style document that an Editor can attach to the panel, so JavaScript embedded in that externally hosted style definition is persisted with the dashboard and later executed in the DOM context of whoever opens it. Because dashboards and panels are shared between members of a Grafana organization, the script crosses privilege boundaries: a low-privilege Editor plants the payload and a higher-privileged viewer (typically Org Admin) triggers it, giving the attacker the victim's session authority. The assessed vector CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N reflects network reachability, low attack complexity, required low privileges (PR:L, so an authenticated Editor account rather than an anonymous attacker), required victim interaction (UI:R, rendering the panel), and high confidentiality and integrity impact within the single organization scope. The affected CPEs are cpe:2.3:a:grafana:grafana_oss and cpe:2.3:a:grafana:grafana_enterprise, confirming that both the open-source and commercial distributions ship the vulnerable panel code.

DescriptionCVE.org

A stored cross-site scripting vulnerability in the Geomap panel's MapLibre base layer allows a user with the Editor role to execute arbitrary JavaScript in another user's session by hosting a malicious style configuration, enabling escalation to Org Admin.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Grafana's Geomap panel (OSS and Enterprise) contains a stored cross-site scripting flaw that lets a user with Editor privileges inject malicious JavaScript into a panel, which then runs in the session of any viewer, including an Org Admin, enabling privilege escalation. Organizations running affected versions-12.3.0, 12.4.0 through 12.4.10, 13.0.0 through 13.0.8, 13.1.0 through 13.1.5, and 13.2.0 through 13.2.1-face risk of Org Admin account takeover and unauthorized access to Grafana data and configurations. With no vendor patch available, leadership should prioritize reducing Editor role exposure and monitoring for suspicious panel changes.

Business Impact: High
Compensating Controls

No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: restrict Editor role assignments to trusted users, disable or restrict Geomap panel usage, enforce a strict Content Security Policy, block outbound access from Grafana to untrusted external style-config hosts, and monitor dashboard/panel changes for unauthorized modifications.
