| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires a malicious application already installed and running on the same Android device as Verizon Cloud (co-resident, AV:L) - there is no remote network path. The malicious app must be able to send ACTION_SEND or ACTION_SEND_MULTIPLE intents to the exported OneTouchUploadActivity or PrintShopCloudActivity components, which are exploitable specifically because they are exported and accept a caller-controlled _display_name that is concatenated unsanitized into the file-staging sink. No user interaction and no elevated privileges are needed. The victim must be signed into an authenticated Verizon Cloud account for the write to reach the cloud account. Limiting factors: requires local device compromise/malicious app installation first, affects only Verizon Cloud versions before 26.7.10, and is confined to integrity impact (arbitrary write) with no data read. |
| Impact | This is a moderate-severity, integrity-only local vulnerability, not a critical remote flaw. The vendor CVSS 4.0 vector (6.9, AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:H/VA:N) is internally consistent with the description: exploitation requires a co-resident malicious app already installed on the same Android device (AV:L), but needs no user interaction (UI:N) and no special privileges beyond the ability to send an intent (PR:N). Impact is confined to integrity (VI:H) - arbitrary file write into the staging directory and the victim's authenticated Verizon Cloud account - with no confidentiality or availability impact (VC:N/VA:N), which matches an arbitrary-write-without-read primitive. No EPSS score, KEV status, or explicit POC flag is provided in the input. One reference points to a researcher-controlled GitHub repository (github.com/actuator/com.vcast.mediamanager) that plausibly hosts proof-of-concept material, but this is not confirmed by the input, so it should not be treated as active exploitation. Real-world priority is tempered by the local attack vector: an attacker must first get a malicious app onto the device, which is a meaningful barrier compared to remote unauthenticated flaws. This is a legitimate mobile-app hardening issue worth patching, but it is not a mass-exploitation, drop-everything emergency. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A user installs a malicious or trojanized app alongside the legitimate Verizon Cloud app. The malicious app sends an ACTION_SEND or ACTION_SEND_MULTIPLE intent to the exported OneTouchUploadActivity or PrintShopCloudActivity with a crafted _display_name containing path-traversal sequences, causing attacker-controlled bytes to be written outside the intended staging directory and injected into the victim's authenticated Verizon Cloud account - all without any user interaction. A researcher GitHub repository is referenced and may contain proof-of-concept code, but the input does not explicitly confirm public exploit availability. |

Path traversal in Verizon Cloud for Android (com.vcast.mediamanager) before 26.7.10 allows a co-resident malicious application on the same device to write attacker-controlled bytes outside the app's intended staging directory by passing a crafted _display_name containing traversal sequences through the exported OneTouchUploadActivity and PrintShopCloudActivity components. Because the write lands in the authenticated user's Cloud staging/upload path, injected content can be pushed into that user's Verizon Cloud account without any interaction from the victim. The issue is local-only (a malicious app must already be installed and running on the device), is assessed as a moderate-severity integrity-only flaw with no confidentiality or availability impact, and no public exploit code was identified at time of analysis; the vendor has released a fix in version 26.7.10.
RemediationAI
Upgrade Verizon Cloud for Android to version 26.7.10 or later - vendor-released patch: 26.7.10 - installed via Google Play or the vendor's managed-app channel; the advisory at https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/verizon-cloud-for-android-path-traversal-via-onetouchuploadactivity should be used to confirm the fixed build. Because the root cause is the combination of exported activities and unsanitized _display_name handling, there is no server-side or account-level configuration that fully removes the risk; the practical compensating controls are all on the device. Enterprise and MDM-managed fleets should enforce a Play Protect / allowlist policy that blocks sideloaded or non-approved applications, since the exploit prerequisite is a co-resident malicious app - the trade-off is reduced flexibility for users who legitimately side-load software. Administrators can also restrict Verizon Cloud deployment to fully managed, non-BYOD devices or containers where users cannot install arbitrary APKs, at the cost of excluding personal-device use cases. Disabling or blocking the app entirely (via managed configuration or uninstall) eliminates exposure but also removes the backup/upload functionality. On unmanaged devices, users should avoid sideloading apps from outside Google Play and keep Google Play Protect enabled; note that Play Protect is heuristic and will not reliably block an already-trusted malicious app, and it cannot retroactively validate intents sent by an installed app. There is no documented way for end users to unexport or disable the OneTouchUploadActivity/PrintShopCloudActivity components without modifying the APK, which is not a supported remediation.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The flaw is a classic CWE-22 path traversal (improper limitation of a pathname to a restricted directory) inside an Android application. Verizon Cloud for Android exposes two exported activity components, OneTouchUploadActivity and PrintShopCloudActivity, that participate in the app's media-upload flow. These activities accept inbound ACTION_SEND and ACTION_SEND_MULTIPLE intents and read the caller-supplied display name - the value conventionally surfaced through OpenableColumns.DISPLAY_NAME / _display_name - to stage the incoming content into a file-cache directory before upload. The filename is concatenated into the destination path without canonicalization or traversal sanitization (no rejection of '../' sequences, no check that the resolved canonical path remains inside the staging root). Because the activities are exported, any third-party app on the device can invoke them directly and control the _display_name value; the resulting traversal writes escape the intended staging directory and let the attacker place arbitrary bytes at attacker-chosen paths that the app can later read and synchronize. The exploit requires no privileges (the assessed CVSS 3.1 vector is AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N) and no user interaction, but it is strictly local: there is no network-reachable entry point. EUVD tracks the same issue as EUVD-2026-82341 for Verizon Cloud for Android versions 0 through 26.7.10, and the standard Android package identifier for the affected app is com.vcast.mediamanager.

2DescriptionCVE.org
Verizon Cloud for Android (com.vcast.mediamanager) before 26.7.10 contains a path traversal vulnerability that allows co-resident malicious applications to write attacker-controlled bytes outside the intended staging directory by supplying a crafted _display_name value containing path-traversal sequences through exported activities OneTouchUploadActivity and PrintShopCloudActivity. Attackers can exploit the unsanitized filename concatenation in the file-staging sink via ACTION_SEND or ACTION_SEND_MULTIPLE intents to achieve arbitrary file write and inject attacker-controlled content into the authenticated user's Verizon Cloud account without user interaction.
