| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires a valid, authenticated Tanium Comply session with at least low-level privileges (PR:L per CVSS). The attacker must be able to discover or guess a user-controlled key - such as a record or object identifier - belonging to another user or group within the same Comply deployment. No special non-default configuration is required beyond having an active Comply account. Exploitation is limited by the need for prior authentication and by the moderate per-object impact (C:L/I:L/A:L); unauthenticated external attackers cannot exploit this flaw directly. |
| Impact | The vendor-assigned CVSS 3.1 score of 6.3 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L) accurately captures the threat model: network-reachable, low-complexity, but requiring a valid authenticated session (PR:L), with limited per-request impact across all three CIA dimensions. IDOR vulnerabilities in multi-tenant compliance platforms carry elevated business risk compared to raw CVSS score because compliance data (audit findings, remediation status, policy baselines) is often sensitive and cross-tenant visibility could undermine regulatory posture. No EPSS data is provided, KEV status is negative, and no public proof-of-concept has been identified - this is not a priority for emergency patching but should be remediated on the next scheduled maintenance cycle. The three simultaneously affected release branches (2.32, 2.35, 2.37) suggest a systemic access-control pattern rather than a one-off oversight. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An authenticated Comply user with a standard low-privilege account identifies a predictable compliance record identifier - such as an assessment ID or remediation ticket key - belonging to a peer or a different organizational group, then substitutes that key in an API request or URL parameter to read or alter that record without authorization. No proof-of-concept has been identified, but IDOR exploitation requires minimal technical skill once an attacker holds any valid session. |

Improper access controls in Tanium Comply allow authenticated low-privileged users to bypass object-level authorization and access or manipulate compliance data belonging to other users or tenants. Affecting three active release branches (2.32, 2.35, 2.37), the flaw is rooted in CWE-639 (Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key), a class of vulnerability commonly known as Insecure Direct Object Reference (IDOR). Tanium self-disclosed and patched the issue via advisory TAN-2026-038; no public exploit or active exploitation has been identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Upgrade Tanium Comply to a patched build per release branch: 2.32.252 or later for customers on the 2.32 branch, 2.35.306 or later for the 2.35 branch, and 2.37.308 or later for the 2.37 branch. Patch guidance is available in Tanium Security Advisory TAN-2026-038 at https://security.tanium.com/TAN-2026-038. Until patching is possible, restrict Comply access to the minimum set of authenticated users required for operational need, and audit Comply access logs for anomalous cross-user or cross-group object-reference patterns. Given the PR:L requirement, disabling or suspending unused low-privilege Comply accounts reduces the attack surface at the cost of operational access for those accounts.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Tanium Comply is the compliance-assessment and reporting module of the Tanium unified endpoint management platform, widely deployed in large enterprise and regulated-industry environments. CWE-639 describes a condition where an application uses a user-controllable key - such as a record ID, object GUID, or URL parameter - to look up objects without verifying that the requesting user is authorized to access that specific object. An authenticated user can substitute a predictable or discoverable key value to reach another user's or tenant's compliance data. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:tanium:comply:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* covers all Comply versions, with EUVD narrowing the affected scope to the 2.32, 2.35, and 2.37 release streams below their respective patch builds.
