Pterodactyl Panel before 1.14.1 fails to validate action-specific permissions in scheduled task creation, allowing subusers with only schedule.update permission to execute arbitrary console commands. Attackers can create and immediately trigger scheduled tasks that run game-server console commands, control server power state, or create backups without proper authorization checks.
AnalysisAI
Privilege escalation in Pterodactyl Panel before 1.14.1 allows authenticated subusers holding only the schedule.update permission to execute arbitrary game-server console commands, alter server power state, and trigger backup creation without the corresponding action-specific authorization. The root cause is explicitly documented in the original source code - StoreTaskRequest.php stated 'There are no task specific permissions' - meaning any subuser authorized to modify schedules could embed any privileged action into a task and immediately fire it via the execute endpoint. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires: (1) a valid subuser account on the target Pterodactyl Panel instance - unauthenticated access is not sufficient; (2) that subuser must hold at least the schedule.update permission on the target server, which is granted by server owners and not assigned by default. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H) scoring 8.7 accurately reflects the attack profile: network-reachable with no complexity or special conditions, requiring only a low-privileged subuser account. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade Pterodactyl Panel to version 1.14.1 or later, available at https://github.com/pterodactyl/panel/releases/tag/v1.14.1. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours: Conduct an immediate inventory of all Pterodactyl Panel deployments, noting versions and subuser account permission assignments, with priority flag for any pre-1.14.1 instances granting schedule.update permissions to untrusted subusers. …
