Local low-privilege attacker exploits symlink; scope changes because kernel context writes to root-owned resources; UI:R reflects operator must initiate acquisition; no confidentiality impact.

DescriptionCVE.org

LiME through 1.12.0 fails to validate the disk acquisition output path and does not use O_NOFOLLOW when opening the operator-supplied path parameter, allowing unprivileged local users to overwrite arbitrary root-owned files. An attacker who controls the output directory can create a symbolic link with the expected filename pointing to any root-owned file, and when the acquisition runs in kernel context, LiME follows the link and truncates the target file with the memory acquisition stream.

AnalysisAI

Arbitrary root-owned file overwrite in LiME (Linux Memory Extractor) through 1.12.0 enables local privilege escalation via symlink injection during disk-mode memory acquisition. LiME opens the operator-supplied output path from within kernel context without setting O_NOFOLLOW and without validating the path for symbolic links, meaning an unprivileged local attacker who controls the acquisition output directory can pre-position a symlink pointing to any root-owned file and have it truncated or overwritten with the memory stream. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires the attacker to hold a local unprivileged account on the target Linux host and have write access to the directory designated as LiME's acquisition output. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment Real-world risk is moderate but operationally significant in incident-response environments. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation No vendor-released patch has been identified at time of analysis - the VulnCheck advisory and GitHub source references do not point to a fixed release version. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Threat intelligence, references, and detailed analysis are available after sign-in.
