The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up.

Exploitation Conditions

The attack requires two simultaneous conditions: (1) the attacker must control a page served from the exact same origin (protocol, hostname, and port) as the Jenkins controller - achievable via stored XSS in any insufficiently escaped user-controlled field (job names, descriptions, build parameters, plugin UI), via a Jenkins-hosted user page, or via any other same-origin content injection vector; and (2) an authenticated Jenkins user - ideally one with administrative privileges - must visit the attacker-controlled page while holding an active session. Exploitation is strictly bounded by the same-origin policy: an attacker operating from any different domain cannot read the JavaScript response containing the crumb. Jenkins instances where all users are fully trusted administrators and no externally contributed content is rendered on the controller origin face substantially reduced practical risk.

Impact

The official CVSS 8.8 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R) likely overstates exploitation ease because the attack carries a non-trivial prerequisite: the attacker must already control a page served from the same origin as the Jenkins controller. This condition raises effective attack complexity beyond AC:L. In practice, this vulnerability acts as a force multiplier - converting a secondary same-site content injection or XSS weakness into full CSRF bypass, enabling admin-level forged actions against any victim who visits the attacker-controlled page. The wide affected version range (Jenkins 2.447-2.579 and LTS 2.452.1-2.568.2) means a large installed base is exposed. No EPSS score, KEV listing, or public POC is included in the provided data; exploitation probability is therefore inferred from CVSS and description alone. Risk is substantially elevated for Jenkins deployments hosting plugin-contributed or user-authored content on the controller origin, and substantially lower for locked-down instances where only highly trusted operators access the controller.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker who discovers a stored XSS in a Jenkins job description, build log, or plugin-rendered field hosts a malicious script at the Jenkins origin. When an authenticated Jenkins administrator views the affected page, the script silently fetches the crumb-embedding JavaScript endpoint, parses out the CSRF token, and immediately submits a forged POST request to create a new admin account or modify critical job configuration - all without any visible indication to the victim. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 02, 2026

CSRF token leakage in Jenkins allows an attacker who controls any same-origin page on the Jenkins controller to silently steal a valid CSRF crumb from an authenticated user's session and forge privileged requests on their behalf. The vulnerability spans Jenkins 2.447-2.579 (weekly) and LTS 2.452.1-2.568.2 via the bundled Stapler web framework, which embeds the session crumb as a plaintext string literal inside dynamically generated JavaScript responses. No public exploit or CISA KEV listing is present at time of analysis, but successful exploitation yields full account-level action forgery against any authenticated victim who visits the attacker-controlled page.

RemediationAI

Upgrade to Jenkins 2.580 (weekly) or Jenkins LTS 2.568.3, both confirmed as patched releases per EUVD data and the official Jenkins security advisory (SECURITY-3878) at https://www.jenkins.io/security/advisory/2026-09-02/#SECURITY-3878. If immediate upgrade is not feasible, remove any mechanism by which untrusted or user-contributed content can be hosted at the same HTTP origin as the Jenkins controller, eliminating the prerequisite for exploitation - note this may require auditing plugin-provided UI pages. Additionally, enabling a strict Content Security Policy (CSP) header in Jenkins System Configuration can limit script execution from injected content and reduce the attack surface for same-site injection vectors, though aggressive CSP settings are known to break some plugin UIs and require testing before broad deployment.

Technical ContextAI · show details

Jenkins uses the Stapler web framework (bundled in its WAR) to route HTTP requests and serve dynamic resources, including on-the-fly generated JavaScript files. Jenkins CSRF protection relies on a per-session 'crumb' token that must accompany all state-changing HTTP requests. The vulnerable endpoint generates JavaScript dynamically and embeds the requesting user's crumb as a string literal within the script body. Because same-origin JavaScript resources are freely readable by other pages at the same origin (via fetch() or XMLHttpRequest), any attacker-controlled page sharing the Jenkins origin can retrieve this endpoint's response and extract the crumb from the returned text. The root cause is sensitive token disclosure within a script resource (CWE-352 is assigned as CSRF, though the enabling mechanism is token leakage). The affected Stapler range is 1839.ved17667b_a_eb_5 through 2107.v8dfcb_e8ed317 (exclusive of 2088.2093.vd7c3e58008a_6), covering CPE cpe:2.3:a:jenkins_project:jenkins:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*.

DescriptionCVE.org

In Stapler 1839.ved17667b_a_eb_5 through 2107.v8dfcb_e8ed317 (both inclusive), except 2088.2093.vd7c3e58008a_6, included in Jenkins 2.447 through 2.579 (both inclusive), LTS 2.452.1 through 2.568.2 (both inclusive), an HTTP endpoint serving dynamically generated JavaScript resources embeds the user's cross-site request forgery (CSRF) token (crumb) as a string literal, allowing attackers with control over a page hosted on the same site as Jenkins to obtain a valid crumb for the targeted user's session and perform actions on their behalf.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Jenkins continuous integration/deployment platforms (versions 2.447-2.579 and LTS 2.452.1-2.568.2) are exposed to a high-severity security flaw enabling attackers to impersonate authenticated administrators and forge privileged actions-including code deployment, configuration changes, and credential access-without valid authentication, directly threatening software delivery pipeline integrity and supply chain security.

Business Impact: High
Compensating Controls

Restrict network access to Jenkins controllers to corporate networks or hardened CI/CD infrastructure only, preventing external exploitation; deploy web application firewall rules targeting sensitive Jenkins endpoints (/queue, /admin, /credentials) to block requests with missing or invalid anti-CSRF headers; enforce re-authentication (password or multi-factor authentication) before permitting changes to system configuration, credentials, or pipeline definitions; enable comprehensive audit logging and establish monitoring alerts for unexpected administrative actions or configuration changes; disable same-origin content serving (build artifacts, logs, external resources) via the Stapler framework where operationally feasible; immediately apply any security patches released for the Stapler framework or Jenkins JavaScript components without waiting for a full major release.
