| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires a publicly accessible WordPress form built with Everest Forms version 3.4.4 or earlier that contains at least one upload field type and at least one required non-upload field. The required field must be left empty on submission to trigger form re-rendering - this specific code path is what invokes |
| Impact | The CVSS 3.1 base score of 5.3 (Medium) with vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N accurately captures an unauthenticated, low-complexity network attack path with limited confidentiality impact. The C:L rating is justified because, while HEAD requests return no response body, successful status codes reveal host reachability - enabling internal network mapping, SSRF-based port scanning of internal services, and probing of cloud instance metadata endpoints (e.g., 169.254.169.254 on AWS/GCP/Azure), which can expose cloud credentials in environments lacking egress filtering. No EPSS data was provided, leaving exploitation probability unquantified; this is a material gap in the risk picture. CISA KEV listing is absent and no public POC code is explicitly identified, indicating no confirmed active mass exploitation at time of analysis. Scope is correctly rated Unchanged given that the attacker receives only HTTP status code information from the server-side HEAD request rather than achieving code execution or accessing a second security authority. The practical risk is highest for WordPress deployments hosted in cloud environments with accessible instance metadata services; a security team managing a fleet of WordPress sites - including smaller municipal or SMB operators - should verify whether network-level egress filtering already neutralizes this pathway before treating the Medium CVSS score as a safe deprioritization signal. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An unauthenticated attacker locates a public WordPress site running Everest Forms 3.4.4 or earlier with a form containing both an upload field and at least one required non-upload field. The attacker submits the form with a crafted internal URL - such as http://169.254.169.254/latest/meta-data/ for AWS instance metadata or an RFC 1918 address targeting an internal service - in the upload field while deliberately leaving the required field blank. The form re-renders, triggering the vulnerable code path; the WordPress server issues an HTTP HEAD request to the attacker-specified URL, and based on the HTTP response code, the attacker infers whether the internal host is reachable from the server's network position, building a map of internal services for follow-on attack planning. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Aug 28, 2026
Server-Side Request Forgery in the Everest Forms WordPress plugin (all versions up to and including 3.4.4) enables unauthenticated remote attackers to force the WordPress server to issue arbitrary outbound HTTP HEAD requests to attacker-controlled URLs. The flaw resides in the plugin's upload field handling: when a form submission triggers re-rendering due to a missing required field, unsanitized POST-supplied URLs are passed directly to WordPress's wp_remote_head() without any domain restriction. No active exploitation has been confirmed by CISA KEV, though the zero-authentication requirement and WordPress's broad deployment footprint elevate practical risk for internal network reconnaissance and cloud metadata endpoint probing.
RemediationAI
Site administrators should update Everest Forms to the version that incorporates or supersedes WordPress plugin repository changeset 3507814 (https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/3507814/) by applying the plugin update via the WordPress admin dashboard or WP-CLI; the specific patched release version number is not confirmed in the available data, so administrators should verify the changelog after updating. As an immediate compensating control before patching, temporarily disabling or unpublishing any forms that include an upload field removes the vulnerable code path entirely, with the trade-off of interrupting upload functionality for site visitors. Where form availability cannot be disrupted, configuring network-level egress filtering to block outbound HTTP and HTTPS requests from the web server process substantially limits SSRF impact by preventing the server from reaching internal hosts or cloud metadata services, though this may break other plugin or theme features that depend on outbound HTTP connectivity. A narrower alternative is a WAF rule that rejects POST submissions where an upload field value matches a URL pattern targeting non-public IP ranges (RFC 1918 addresses, loopback, link-local). Technical ContextAI · show details
The vulnerability is classified under CWE-918 (Server-Side Request Forgery), where user-controlled input directly constructs URLs that the server subsequently fetches without validation. The specific code path begins in the load_previous_field_value() method of class-evf-form-task.php (line 1448), which reads arbitrary URL values from $_POST data associated with upload fields and applies no domain or scheme restriction. These values are forwarded to the get_local_file_size() method in class-evf-form-fields-upload.php (line 1196), which calls WordPress's built-in wp_remote_head() HTTP API function to issue an outbound HEAD request to the attacker-supplied URL. The attack path is gated on a specific form re-render trigger: the SSRF fires only when a required non-upload field is left empty, causing WordPress to redisplay the partially completed form and re-evaluate upload field state. DescriptionCVE.org
The Everest Forms plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Server-Side Request Forgery in all versions up to, and including, 3.4.4. This is due to the load_previous_field_value() method in class-evf-form-task.php accepting arbitrary URL values from $_POST data for upload fields without domain restriction, which are then passed to wp_remote_head() in the get_local_file_size() method of class-evf-form-fields-upload.php. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to force the WordPress server to make outbound HTTP HEAD requests to arbitrary URLs by submitting a form with an upload field containing a malicious URL while leaving a required field empty to trigger form re-rendering.
