DescriptionCVE.org

In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14, a user who holds a Splunk role that contains the high-privilege list_search_head_clustering capability could send a read request to Search Head Cluster member control endpoints and change cluster state, which could allow for a denial of service. The vulnerability is possible because the Search Head Cluster member control endpoints do not require a state-changing Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) request type before they apply read-only authorization.

AnalysisAI

Search Head Cluster member control endpoints in Splunk Enterprise fail to enforce HTTP method-based authorization, allowing a user holding the high-privilege list_search_head_clustering capability to send read-typed HTTP requests that alter cluster state and cause a denial of service. Four release branches are affected - 9.4.x, 10.0.x, 10.2.x, and 10.4.x - with fixed versions available from Splunk (SVD-2026-0801). …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires an authenticated Splunk user account assigned to a role that includes the `list_search_head_clustering` capability, which Splunk describes as a high-privilege permission. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 3.1 score of 3.8 (Low) accurately reflects the constrained attack surface: while the endpoint is network-reachable (AV:N) with low complexity (AC:L), exploitation requires prior authentication with a high-privilege Splunk role (PR:H), substantially narrowing the attacker population to insiders or actors who have already compromised a privileged account. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An insider or attacker who has compromised a Splunk account bearing the `list_search_head_clustering` capability issues crafted HTTP GET (or other read-typed) requests to Search Head Cluster member control endpoints that are designed to accept only state-changing verbs. Because the endpoints apply read-only authorization without verifying the HTTP method, the requests are processed as state changes, altering cluster membership or configuration and disrupting Search Head Cluster availability. …
Remediation Upgrade to a patched Splunk Enterprise release: 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, or 9.4.14, as detailed in Splunk advisory SVD-2026-0801 (https://advisory.splunk.com/advisories/SVD-2026-0801). … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
