DescriptionCVE.org

In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14, a user who holds the "power" Splunk role could store a Dashboard Studio workflow action with a crafted Uniform Resource Locator (URL). When another authenticated user selects the stored action from Event Actions and selects Continue, attacker-controlled JavaScript runs in the browser of that user. This could expose data or actions available through Splunk Web to that user. The vulnerability is possible because Dashboard Studio does not sufficiently validate workflow-action URLs before processing them. The vulnerability requires the attacker to phish the affected user by tricking them into initiating a request within their browser. The user who holds the "power" Splunk role should not be able to exploit the vulnerability at will. For more information see Define roles on the Splunk platform with capabilities (https://help.splunk.com/en/splunk-enterprise/administer/manage-users-and-security/10.2/manage-splunk-platform-users-and-roles/define-roles-on-the-splunk-platform-with-capabilities) in the Splunk documentation.

AnalysisAI

Stored cross-site scripting in Splunk Enterprise's Dashboard Studio allows a user holding the 'power' role to persist a crafted workflow action URL that, when triggered by a separate authenticated victim, executes attacker-controlled JavaScript in the victim's browser session. All four actively maintained branches are affected: 10.4.x below 10.4.2, 10.2.x below 10.2.6, 10.0.x below 10.0.9, and 9.4.x below 9.4.14. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation The attacker must hold an authenticated Splunk account assigned the 'power' role - a non-admin but privileged built-in role - to store the malicious workflow action URL in Dashboard Studio. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The vendor-assigned CVSS 7.1 with vector AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H reflects the layered prerequisites accurately. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario A malicious insider or attacker with a compromised 'power' role account opens Dashboard Studio and creates a workflow action whose URL embeds a JavaScript payload. The attacker then socially engineers a higher-privileged Splunk user - such as an admin - into opening the relevant dashboard, navigating to Event Actions, selecting the poisoned action, and clicking Continue. …
Remediation Upgrade Splunk Enterprise to one of the vendor-patched releases: 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, or 9.4.14, as documented in the vendor advisory at https://advisory.splunk.com/advisories/SVD-2026-0801. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory your Splunk Enterprise deployments to identify instances running versions 9.4.x, 10.0.x, 10.2.x, or 10.4.x; immediately audit and restrict 'power' role assignments to only essential personnel, and review recent dashboard modifications for suspicious workflow actions. …
