Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires that a legitimate PiCtory operator holds an active authenticated session to the web configuration backend at the time of the attack, and is induced to visit an attacker-controlled webpage (via phishing, watering-hole, or malicious advertisement). The CVSS 4.0 UI:A metric confirms user interaction is mandatory. The PiCtory web interface must be reachable (at the network level) from the system on which the victim's browser loads the malicious page - if PiCtory is isolated to a management VLAN inaccessible from general browsing hosts, exploitation is blocked. No special application configuration or non-default settings are required on the PiCtory side; the vulnerability is present in the default installation of version 2.16.0. Exploitation is limited by: (1) the social engineering prerequisite to lure an authenticated operator, (2) network accessibility of PiCtory from the browsing host, and (3) the attacker's inability to read responses (standard CSRF limitation), meaning data exfiltration is not possible - only blind state-changing operations.

Impact

The CVSS 4.0 score of 5.1 (Medium) accurately captures the conditional nature of this vulnerability. The vector AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A reflects that while network exposure and no attacker authentication are required (elevating reach), user interaction is mandatory (UI:A), which acts as a meaningful real-world barrier. Impact metrics are VI:L/VA:L on the vulnerable system and SA:L on subsequent systems - low individually, but in ICS/OT environments the deletion of control configuration files or resetting a running industrial runtime can have outsized operational consequences beyond what standard CVSS scoring conveys. There is no CISA KEV listing and no known POC or active exploitation, making this a theoretical-to-low real-world risk at present. The primary threat model is a targeted social engineering campaign against a PiCtory operator in an industrial environment. The SA:L metric (subsequent-system availability impact) correctly acknowledges that controlled downstream devices may be affected when the runtime is reset.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker sends a phishing email to a PiCtory operator containing a link to an attacker-controlled webpage embedding hidden HTML forms or JavaScript that submits crafted HTTP requests to the PiCtory configuration backend. When the operator opens the link while their browser has an active PiCtory session, the browser automatically includes session cookies with the forged requests, causing the backend to process the operations as though they were legitimate - potentially deleting configuration files or triggering a control runtime reset. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis.

AnalysisAIv1 – Aug 14, 2026

Cross-site request forgery in KUNBUS PiCtory 2.16.0's web-based configuration backend allows remote unauthenticated attackers to perform destructive state-changing operations - including deletion of project and configuration files and resetting the control runtime - by inducing an authenticated operator's browser to submit crafted requests. This affects industrial OT environments where PiCtory manages Revolution Pi controller configurations. No public exploit has been identified at time of analysis, but the impact in ICS/OT contexts extends to potential disruption of control operations even at a 'low' CVSS integrity/availability rating.

RemediationAI

No vendor-released patch version has been identified at time of analysis - patch status should be confirmed directly with KUNBUS and via the Nozomi Networks advisory at https://www.nozominetworks.com/labs/vulnerability-advisories-cve-2026-57469. As a compensating control, restrict access to the PiCtory web configuration backend to isolated management VLANs or VPN-only segments, preventing the attacker-hosted malicious page from routing crafted requests to the PiCtory interface (network segmentation reduces the attack surface but does not eliminate the flaw if operators browse from systems on the same segment). Operators should avoid visiting untrusted external websites or clicking unsolicited links while maintaining an active authenticated PiCtory session. Implementing a reverse proxy with strict referrer/origin header enforcement in front of PiCtory may partially mitigate CSRF if the backend does not process mismatched origins, but this depends on whether the backend performs origin validation - verify before relying on this control. Monitor PiCtory audit logs for unexpected configuration deletions or runtime resets as an indicator of exploitation.

Technical ContextAI · show details

KUNBUS PiCtory is the web-based configuration interface for the Revolution Pi (RevPi) platform, an industrial IoT and automation control module built on Raspberry Pi hardware. The vulnerability class is CWE-352 (Cross-Site Request Forgery), which arises when a web application processes state-changing requests without verifying that the request was intentionally initiated by the authenticated user - relying solely on ambient credentials such as session cookies. An attacker can craft HTTP requests that a victim's browser will automatically authenticate and submit. The CPE string cpe:2.3:a:kunbus:pictory:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* with a wildcard version range indicates NVD has not yet scoped the full affected range; the description specifies version 2.16.0 as confirmed vulnerable. The absence of CSRF mitigations such as synchronizer tokens, SameSite cookie attributes, or custom request headers is the root cause.
