MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires that the target runs SiYuan (before v3.7.4) with its publish/sharing mode enabled and network-reachable, and that the attacker can reach the getBlockDOMWithEmbed or getBlockDOMsWithEmbed endpoints; the leak specifically occurs through published blocks that contain embed queries referencing password-protected, hidden, or forbidden documents. No authentication or user interaction is needed against such a published instance (PR:N/UI:N). Limiting factors: a purely local, single-user SiYuan install that never enables publishing is not exposed, and only content reachable through embed queries is disclosed - integrity and availability are not affected. |
| Impact | The supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N/SC:H/SI:N/SA:N, score 9.2) describes a network-reachable, low-complexity, unauthenticated attack yielding high confidentiality impact on the vulnerable system plus a high confidentiality impact on a subsequent system (SC:H) - reflecting that data belonging to a different authorization domain is exposed. Integrity and availability are untouched, so this is a pure information-disclosure issue, not RCE. There is no CISA KEV listing and no POC referenced, so the correct posture is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis' and no EPSS score was provided. The primary caveat: exploitation presupposes that the target actually runs SiYuan's publish mode and exposes it to the attacker; the CVSS PR:N/AV:N rating is accurate for such deployments but overstates risk for the many SiYuan installs used purely as a local single-user app. For internet-exposed published workspaces this is a genuine high-priority confidentiality bug; for local-only installs the real-world exposure is much lower. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An organization publishes a SiYuan notebook for internal reference; one published page contains an embed block whose query happens to span into a hidden or password-protected document. An unauthenticated attacker who can reach the published site sends requests to the getBlockDOMWithEmbed / getBlockDOMsWithEmbed endpoint and receives the rendered embedded content, reading the protected notes without ever supplying the password. No public POC is currently known, but the low attack complexity makes reproduction straightforward for anyone with access to the published endpoint. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Aug 12, 2026
Unauthorized cross-document content disclosure in SiYuan note-taking software before v3.7.4 allows remote attackers to read protected notes without credentials. The getBlockDOMWithEmbed and getBlockDOMsWithEmbed endpoints resolve embed queries inside published blocks without re-checking publish-access controls, so an attacker who reaches a published SiYuan workspace can pull back content from password-protected, hidden, or forbidden documents. No public exploit identified at time of analysis, but VulnCheck rates it CVSS 9.2 (CVSS 4.0) and it constitutes an authentication/authorization bypass.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: v3.7.4 - upgrade all SiYuan instances to v3.7.4 or later, which restores publish-access filtering on embedded block content; see the advisory at https://github.com/siyuan-note/siyuan/security/advisories/GHSA-h6w7-xxcf-w2mq. If you cannot upgrade immediately, disable SiYuan's publish/sharing feature or take the published workspace off the network so the getBlockDOMWithEmbed and getBlockDOMsWithEmbed endpoints are not reachable by untrusted clients - the trade-off is that legitimate published sharing stops working. As an interim compensating control, place the published instance behind an authenticating reverse proxy or IP allowlist so only trusted users reach it, and avoid using embed queries that pull from password-protected, hidden, or forbidden documents until patched, since those are the specific blocks whose content leaks.

Technical ContextAI · show details
SiYuan is a self-hostable, block-based personal knowledge-management (PKM) application (similar in concept to Obsidian or Notion) that includes a 'publish' mode exposing selected documents over the network. Documents are composed of blocks, and 'embed' blocks run queries that dynamically pull in the content of other blocks. The flaw is a CWE-862 Missing Authorization: when the getBlockDOMWithEmbed / getBlockDOMsWithEmbed endpoints render a published block, they execute the embedded query and return the results without filtering those results through the same publish-access policy that governs direct document access. As a result the authorization boundary is enforced on the container document but not on the transitively embedded content. The affected component is identified by CPE cpe:2.3:a:siyuan-note:siyuan:*, covering all versions prior to the fixed v3.7.4.

2DescriptionCVE.org
SiYuan versions before v3.7.4 fail to filter embedded block content by publish access in the getBlockDOMWithEmbed and getBlockDOMsWithEmbed endpoints. Attackers can request published blocks containing embed queries to read content from password-protected, hidden, or forbidden documents without authorization.

Executive ViewAI
SiYuan note-taking software before version 3.7.4 contains a critical vulnerability (CVE-2026-72795) that allows unauthorized access to password-protected and hidden notes without credentials. Organizations using SiYuan for sensitive data storage-including financial information, intellectual property, and security configurations-face immediate confidentiality risk with no vendor patch currently available.
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: implement network segmentation to restrict SiYuan instance accessibility, disable embed resolution if operationally viable, relocate highly sensitive notes to alternative platforms pending patch availability, deploy WAF rules to block or rate-limit requests to vulnerable endpoints, and establish continuous monitoring for exploitation attempts. Evaluate alternative note-taking platforms if SiYuan functions as a critical repository for sensitive organizational data.
