DescriptionCVE.org

A flaw was found in the Data Science Pipelines Operator (DSPO). A namespace editor can exploit a vulnerability in the spec.database.customExtraParams field, which allows for the injection of dangerous parameters into the MySQL Data Source Name (DSN) string. By manipulating these parameters, an attacker can enable LOCAL INFILE functionality and exfiltrate sensitive files, such as the service account token, from the operator pod. This can lead to privilege escalation, allowing a namespace editor to gain cluster-admin privileges.

AnalysisAI

MySQL DSN parameter injection in Red Hat OpenShift AI's Data Science Pipelines Operator (DSPO) allows a namespace editor to enable the MySQL LOCAL INFILE feature via the unvalidated spec.database.customExtraParams field, enabling exfiltration of sensitive files - including Kubernetes service account tokens - from the operator pod. An attacker who exploits this can leverage the stolen token to impersonate the operator's service account and escalate privileges to cluster-admin level within the OpenShift cluster. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires the attacker to hold a namespace editor role (or equivalent write permission on DataSciencePipelinesApplication custom resources) in a namespace where RHOAI's Data Science Pipelines Operator is deployed - this maps to the PR:L CVSS metric. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS base score of 8.8 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H) reflects network-reachable exploitation with low privileges and no user interaction, which is accurate - a namespace editor role suffices. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario A namespace editor with write access to the RHOAI namespace modifies the DataSciencePipelinesApplication custom resource, injecting allowLocalInfile=true and a custom database host pointing to an attacker-controlled MySQL server into spec.database.customExtraParams. When the DSPO operator reconciles the resource and attempts a database connection, the rogue MySQL server issues a LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE request for /var/run/secrets/kubernetes.io/serviceaccount/token; the MySQL client in the operator pod reads and transmits the file. …
Remediation The primary remediation is to apply the vendor-provided patch from Red Hat once released; consult https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-18617 for the specific errata and target RHOAI version. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Immediately audit all DSPO deployments for modifications to the spec.database.customExtraParams field and restrict namespace editor role assignments to essential personnel only. …
