Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires a valid, authenticated Kibana user account (PR:L per CVSS vector - unauthenticated exploitation is not possible). The attacker must know or successfully enumerate at least one object identifier for a scheduled query result residing in a different Kibana Space. The target Kibana deployment must be running version 9.4.0 through 9.4.3 and must have the Spaces feature in use with at least two Spaces, at least one of which contains scheduled query result data. Single-Space deployments have no exposure as cross-Space isolation is the attack precondition. What limits exploitation: valid credentials are mandatory, the data exposure is scoped to scheduled query results only (not full Elasticsearch index data), and the attacker must have prior knowledge of or the ability to guess valid result identifiers - which may be UUIDs or similarly non-guessable formats depending on implementation.

Impact

The overall risk is moderate-low in practice. CVSS 4.3 (Medium) reflects a network-accessible (AV:N), low-complexity (AC:L), low-privilege (PR:L), no-user-interaction (UI:N), unscoped (S:U) vulnerability with limited confidentiality impact (C:L) and no integrity or availability impact. The low-privilege requirement means an attacker must already hold a valid Kibana account, significantly narrowing the attack surface compared to unauthenticated IDOR flaws. The confidentiality impact is bounded to scheduled query result data, not credentials, session tokens, or full index contents. No EPSS data was supplied in the intelligence set; however, the PR:L constraint and narrow data scope suggest low exploitation probability in practice. No CISA KEV listing exists, and no public exploit code or proof-of-concept has been identified at time of analysis. The primary realistic risk is insider threat or account-compromised lateral movement across Spaces in multi-tenant Kibana deployments, not opportunistic internet-facing exploitation. Organizations running single-Space deployments or those without scheduled queries configured have no exposure.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An authenticated Kibana user with legitimate access to Space A discovers or enumerates the object identifier of a scheduled query result stored in Space B, to which they hold no authorization. By submitting a crafted API request using that identifier, the server returns the scheduled query result without enforcing Space membership checks, exposing potentially sensitive analytical data from the restricted Space. No exploit code is publicly known, but the attack requires only standard HTTP tooling and a valid session token.

AnalysisAIv1 – Jul 22, 2026

Kibana's multi-tenancy Spaces model can be bypassed through an Insecure Direct Object Reference (IDOR) vulnerability, allowing authenticated users to read scheduled query results belonging to Spaces they are not authorized to access. Affected versions span Kibana 9.4.0 through 9.4.3, with the fix delivered in 9.4.4. The CVSS vector (PR:L, C:L) confirms the impact is limited to low-privilege authenticated access resulting in partial confidentiality loss - no integrity or availability impact is involved. No public exploit code exists and no CISA KEV listing has been identified at time of analysis.

RemediationAI

Upgrade Kibana to version 9.4.4 or later, which contains the vendor-released fix per ESA-2026-70 (https://discuss.elastic.co/t/kibana-9-4-4-security-update-esa-2026-70/388573). This is the primary and recommended remediation path. If an immediate upgrade is operationally blocked, consider restricting access to the Kibana API endpoints that serve scheduled query results to trusted network segments or authenticated service accounts only, using Elastic's built-in role-based access control to reduce the user population that can issue API requests. Additionally, auditing Kibana role assignments to minimize the number of accounts granted any Space access reduces the potential attacker pool. Note that these workarounds do not eliminate the underlying IDOR condition and should be treated as temporary compensating controls only. No patch version other than 9.4.4 is confirmed in the available data.

Technical ContextAI · show details

Kibana Spaces is an Elastic-native multi-tenancy feature that logically isolates dashboards, saved objects, and query data between organizational units within a single Kibana instance. CWE-639 (Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key) describes an Insecure Direct Object Reference pattern where the application uses attacker-controllable identifiers - in this case, identifiers referencing scheduled query result objects - to fetch backend resources without adequately verifying that the requester holds access rights to the target Space. Because the identifier is trusted at the API layer without re-validating Space membership, a user legitimately authenticated to one Space can reference and retrieve data stored in a different, restricted Space. The affected surface is scoped to scheduled query results specifically, not the broader Kibana object model. Elastic reported this through their own security disclosure address (security@elastic.co), tracked externally as ENISA EUVD-2026-47585.
