Remote low-complexity delete needs only Subscriber auth (PR:L); no confidentiality impact, but arbitrary deletion breaks integrity/availability and crosses into full-site scope (S:C).

DescriptionCVE.org

The Word Count and Social Shares WordPress plugin through 1.0 does not validate a user-supplied file path before deletion, nor does it have proper authorization or CSRF checks, allowing any authenticated user, such as a Subscriber, to delete arbitrary files on the server, which can lead to a full site takeover (e.g. by deleting wp-config.php).

AnalysisAI

Arbitrary file deletion in the Word Count and Social Shares WordPress plugin (versions through 1.0) lets any authenticated low-privilege user, including a Subscriber, delete any file the web server can reach because the plugin neither validates the supplied file path nor enforces authorization or CSRF protection. Deleting critical files such as wp-config.php can trigger WordPress's setup/installation flow and enable a full site takeover. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires an authenticated account of any privilege level (Subscriber suffices, per CVSS PR:L) and the ability to reach the plugin's file-deletion action; no user interaction and no elevated role are needed. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The signals are largely consistent and point to a genuine high priority within any environment that runs this plugin. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An attacker registers or logs into a low-privilege Subscriber account on a vulnerable WordPress site, then sends a crafted request to the plugin's unprotected delete action with a traversal path pointing at wp-config.php. Because the plugin skips authorization, CSRF, and path validation, the file is deleted, dropping the site into WordPress's installation flow where the attacker can point it at an attacker-controlled database and seize full control. …
Remediation No vendor-released patch version is identified in the available data, and the plugin appears to be at its latest release (1.0) with an unknown vendor, so treat it as unpatched: the safest action is to deactivate and remove the Word Count and Social Shares plugin entirely until a fixed release is confirmed. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours: disable the Word Count and Social Shares plugin across all affected WordPress installations, check server logs for suspicious file deletion attempts, and review subscriber user accounts for unauthorized access. …
